    The Final Four!!

You guys have helped me so much on this computer build that i have narrowed down the choices to 4 diffrent versions. Memory express is holding a lot of sales this month so all the prices are done by the sale price.

So as you will see i have a dilemma, I would like to have a quiet case but i don't want the video card to be too hot.

    Voice your opinions please!

This computer will be built by the end of October!

    V1

    No Changes

    V2

The diffrence in this version is the case. Instead of the Coolermaster i have chosen a case that will help reduce sound. This case is the:

ANTEC P180 Advanced Super Mid Tower

Its a bit more but I would like to have a silent computer.

    Diffrent Case
    V3

The diffrence in this version is the same case from V2 and a Diffrent video card, the 4870.

Reading some reviews of the 4850 I chose most said that the Video card ran hot because it did not have a cooler. This made me want to re-think my choice.

So I decided to change it to a 4870.

But I'm not sure if i really should pay for the 4870.

ANTEC P180 Advanced Super Mid Tower

    HIS Radeon HD 4870

Diffrent Case and Different video card

    V4

Here the video card has changed. The price is a bit more than the original price but the cooling on the video card is better probubly improving performance.

I may have come to this discussion a little late but why go for the Q6600; the E8500 is faster, uses less energy and will throw off less heat, oh and its cheaper. Otherwise I like V4.

      I like V4. except...

I have a P180, and while its a great case (strong and heavy), I dont think its as quiet as its thought to be. Plus the price on that P180 is a little on the high side. (although after looking at that site, lots of cases seem more than they should be). If you dont mind the few extra $$ over the coolermaster then get the p180. If it were me, I would grab a better cpu heatsink like a thermalright ultra120 (or similar) - something with a 120mm fan and consider a cheaper mobo p5k? I would definitely get the 4870 card.

I agree that the 4870 is a better choice and I like the Scythe Infinity better than the Zalman, just make sure you have room for it (Its cheaper too). Oh and I love my P180, its really heavy and difficult to move but it has a subtle style that is unmatched imo.

erm...not my taste/dollar, but there's no accounting for taste.

if your goal is fastest possible gaming for your dollar, you're overspending on the case, the cpu cooler, and the processor.

for almost any game, as ^ said up there, an e8500 is a better choice, or an even cheaper core2 that you can overclock is a good choice.

arctic cooling freezer 7 pro will get the job done, quietly, at half the price of the zalman. i ran a Pentium D 915 at almost 4 ghz for a year with one. if you're looking for high end cooling, you have better options, and they all say "thermalright" on the box :)

the case is extravagant. i own a p180 (original, minus the cabling help, minus the removable mobo tray) and i like it. i also paid $80 w/free shipping... keep in mind that--at least for me--it was NOT a sufficiently quiet case until i replaced the tri-cool fans with arctic cooling ones all around, and tied them into the mobo for speed tweaking.

          what about something like:
We’re sorry, but this page does not existing. Please visit our home page for more information.

if you can find one from nemoyexpress? it has an earthwatts 500W PSU which will be fine for anything short of a overclocked quad core running with high end sli/crossfire cards. my first nice case was a sonata I with a 380W psu, and both are still going like champs in my little bro's room 4 years later (p4 3.0, x800xt, 1gb system).

why do you want to save that money?-- for an hd4870 of course! :) if you're planning on using your pc for gaming with the bells and whistles turned up, it's the way to go.

now, if you're doing alot of video editing, compiling, etc, that changes things and a quad-core with a 4850 is a decent enough choice, and if you're overly concerned about your case appearance, then i really like the p180 series with a 650w psu (still overkill). you have to make sure your PSU cables are long enough, though--it's quiet a stretch from the bottom cabinet all the way up the the cpu/mobo 4/20 pin inputs.

          edit: seriously--consider http://www.memoryexpress.com/Product...17509(ME).aspx

saves you $$$ off your case and $$$ off buying a psu. antec earthwatts series will perform well for you, and the case has most of the bells and whistles (rubber grommets, air filter, etc. that the p180 has...just less...massive, lol). it's a really sweet case, unless you absolutely have to bling it out with a CM690 or p180 + a separate PSU.

          edit 2: http://www.memoryexpress.com/Product...17040(ME).aspx

          i prefer ocz or geil

          unfortunately out of stock...running 4gb ocz @ 4-4-4, 1066mhz, 2.15v

            Wow, Thank you very much.

After what Corkum, and signa said about the CPU being old i will have to agree and buy the E500 But i actually looked at the E400 and i am thinking that it might be a better choice because of the price.

And i was also looking at the Sonata 3 but i saw that it had a PSU included and then i thought 500 was not enough. So i have included that in the price.

The ram you suggested also was helpful. Yesterday in fact i was looking for new ram because a while ago someone mentioned that the ram was not at 1066ghz. Which this ram is not either but it is much cheaper than the Corsair.

So as you can see the price has dropped from v3's price of $1,329.72 to $ 1,167.13

Again about the ram, I was looking at this ram, The OCZ 4GB 1066MHZ

It is on sale but it is at a higher frequency.

The CPU Fan. Almost everyone i have talked to has mentioned that i need a better fan. So i will go with the suggested Arctic Cooling Freezer 7.

Thanks again and please comment on the CPU and the ram.

            ---edit---

I just noticed that the Price is cheaper than the Price with just sales on it. Not by much just $5 but still.

That looks fairly solid, although I would be wary of a bundled PSU, and the AC7 isn't great if you want a silent PC.

it's a commerically viable, well-received psu that they bundle with their cases in the sonata series, going back all the way to the Truepower/TPII series. we ain't talking about Raidmax bundle with a sonata case.

                same specs as this one:

for $90 all by it's lonesome. has active pfc, 17A on two +12V rails (max should hit about +30ish amps), over 80% efficiency across the board, it's got two native PCI-E connectors for that 4870...it's a great choice if you aren't going bonkers with overclock + dual gpu's. i don't think you can beat the case + psu price with the same quality of the sonata on a budget.

i'm out of the loop on processors. mine is an e6600 i got for $90 on ebay. :P sure someone more informed on the current state of intel's offering will be along to help shortly, though.

I would do some googling and make sure a 48xx series card will fit in a Sonata III. I had a sonata I, they are about the same size.

I would just go with the 8400 and save yourself $20 as there is not much of a difference between them. Plus you could easily overclock to overcome the small clock speed difference.

Yea your right, it is cheeper which does save me money.

And yes the Sonata III is a mini tower case and probably will not fit a huge 4870 video card. So im back to the p180.

Which isn't bad the total is only about 1,200.

im not trying to FB for antec, but sonata is a mid tower (edit)...

...same class as p180. p180 is a little larger, but when you seat the HD's horizontally (sonata/p180) you end up with a couple of more inches mobo/expansion card clearance.

tracking down the specs would still be a good idea though. always better to be informed than RMA'ing.
