Agreed PSU & mobo is overkill. 750W is still an aweful lot of power, drop down to a 550-600W one it will be more than enough.

agreed with the 4870 upgrade, dont think a gtx260 would be a huge letdown but stick with the ATI

The Asus Supreme FX is not as good as an full-blown sound card, but it's better than most integrated solutions from what I've heard.

But really, not worth it unless you'll be doing extreme overclocking.

However now I am not sure if i need a sound card. Which is why i would have used the other motherboard. But this did save me some money.

Without the 4870 and just the 4850 the total cost is $1204.93 which is a bit more appealing

The motherboard will have an onboard sound processor on, so it should be fairly good. Don't buy a soundcard yet, but if you feel you need one, you can buy it later once you've saved a little.

I only see one fairly large problem. As you may know, the Antec 900 is a relatively small case with no cable management, so they can get very, very messy. You selected a non-modular PSU which means none of the cables detach. This means you will have a lot of spare cables hanging about.

It's modular so the cables detach, thus, meaning less mess. It's also powerful enough.

Also try and find the 4870 version with 1GB of memory if you can, but if its more than $30 more expensive than the 512mb version just get the normal version

512mb would be fine for 1680x1050 or below.

Id go for the antec P182, coolermaster R690 or if i was treating myself then a Cosmos S but they dont have the same window design Definately get the PSU Alex said though.

a system configured with an hd4870, a conroe based core quad processor, and similar specs as you've laid out will typically max out at 350W unless you're doing some heavy overclocking. there are references all over the place detailing max wattage (and as others have noted, amperage is more important than throwing watts around) but here is a plain-language recent one:

you can find some 90nm 8800gtx sli systems and those horrid 2900xt systems that will gulp more juice, but unless you're going sli/crossfire, it just isn't worth getting more than a solid 550-650W psu.

i don't know why folks go bonkers over psu's except that bigger numbers always make folks feel better. you know, they actually did a study on the psychology of the ford mustang, and found out that since the lines of the mustang with a six were identical to the lines of the mustang with the eight cylinder engine, and since the eight's no longer growl like they used to, it was necessary to add another pair of headlights to the front. why? so the buyer would be able to properly advertise his ep...numbers of cylinders, therefore justifying his purchase and inflicting envy upon those with low self-esteem* who bought into a mustang with a six cylinder engine.

*not meant to be taken seriously. i'm sure everyone's self esteem is doing marvelous this afternoon.

as a side note, i really, really like the fit and finish of the newer asus mobo's. that reset switch has saved me...well...let's just say numerous times when i upgraded from 2 gb to 4 and from a 3870 to a 4870. i could'na figure out why she would'na boot, captain! the stand-offs for the case connectors are also pretty sweet--no poking around looking for the proper orientation, trying to read little letters with a flashlight, twisting the manual upside down to try to make it match the headers... lots of other bonuses with asus boards with stability and usability.

edit, and just one more thing--if you're buying an aftermarket cooler, it's much easier to install most of them with the mobo out of your pc, especially with the "roller coaster" heat pipes running all over the **** board. gawd i hate the lga775, four a**hole, err, "socket" design.

Yea i wasn't too sure on how much watts i would actually need. I don't really know how much i will need but since i will probably have a crossfire at some point in time i think that going with a 650w unfortunately the one that Alex98uk suggested is 40 bucks more than the 750. With a Radeon 4850, you'll be able to play on high (perhaps 2x AA), but not on a high resolution.

With my 4870, i can't play high at 1680x1050 smoothly

Oh and make sure you buy the 64bit version of Windows Vista Premium.

if crysis is going to be your primary game it might be worth going Nvidia. They dont perform in other games aswell as the ATI cards but they are still V good performers.

speculation is that nVidia downgraded graphics settings at the driver level in order to achieve that--at least in the beta drivers they issue immediately after new product launches. i'll post some linkies/screenies i remember reading...if i remember to come back and do it lol.
