The CPU is good; I'm getting the Q9450, which is £25 less and has a lower clock speed, but which will overclock up to Q9550 speeds easily.

For the motherboard, don't go for an nForce board; they're only worth it if you're desperate to do SLI, which isn't really worth it TBQH. Instead, look at one of the Asus or Gigabyte P35 or P45 boards.

The memory is fine, although if you want to overclock signifiacntly you may want to invest in 1066MHz RAM.

What make is the hard drive? For 750GB, go for the Samsung Spinpoint F1 750GB; it's the best on the market for performance vs price.

An 80GB O/S drive probably isn't worth it, since a 750GB drive will actually be faster.

The GTX 260 is a decent card. Also look at an ATI HD 4870, which offers similar performance for less money.

Don't get an Xtreme Audio; it isn't a real X-Fi. Instead get an Xtreme Gamer or an Asus Xonar DX.

For the PSU get a Corsair of some description.

Also i had 2 hard drives so incase the o/s messes up i dont lose my data(which my dad did bout 1 week ago.)

There wasnt a choice for themotherboard or grapics card either.

Ermm the motherboard is microatx AM2, whihc wont fit an Intel CPU..and it wont fit most cases...

If you partition the drive, there's little chance of the OS taking your data with it.

Ok heres a quick list, mind you this is teh basics of a good PC. It does not include a case(you should pick that as you have to look at it all the time ), or a keyboard and mouse as you should pick what you like.

CPU=£116.20 : Quad Core. Very good and overall great value.

Motherboard=£116.31 : Great motherboard loads of awesome features.

PSU(Power Supply)=£65.79 : Great reliability, great company.

GFX card=£173.89 : Will cope with any game you throw at it.

22" Monitor=£148.86 : 22" For cheap

HDD=£42.05 : half a terabyte for under 50 quid.

Memory=£63.97 : 4GB Of RAM, great value.

Comes to £742.33 INC VAT which leaves money spare for keyboard and mouse.

You could probably go for a cheaper motherboard such as the Asus P5Q-E or the similarly priced P5Q Deluxe. For the monitor, take a look at a Samsung; I have just got a T220 for £334 with £40 cashback of Ebuyer. For the CPU cooler, take a look at the Xigmatek HDT-S1283, and an Antec P182, 900 or 1200 for the case. Yes, I've just copied out the specs of the PC that I've just ordered, but I'm hardly going to say I made huge mistakes in choosing it. :p

Definitely less on the motherboard. X38 is overkill. I'd say P45. The Asus P5Q Pro has caught my attention lately. Crossfire ready.

I dunno if quad core is really necessary. I'd still get a dual core. But if you're still lookin to save some money, you get the dual core Intel E8400.

x38 and x48 are the only boards that can do "true" crossfire...ie 2 PIC-e x16 slots..unlike P45 boards where one is x16 and the other is either 4x or 8x....

True, but a 16x & 8x or even a 8x & 8x config is still really fast. P45 in an 8x & 8x configuration is 5% slower than a 16x & 16x Crossfire setup with X38/X48.

Right now it is possible to purchase a decent ASUS P45 motherboard, such as the P5Q Pro for example, at just $150 US. Pairing this board with Crossfire Radeon HD 4850 graphics cards would cost around $550 US, making for an extremely lethal combo! The cheapest ASUS X48 board on the other hand, is the P5E Deluxe at $220 US, and we are not sure that at this price it is worth the 5% Crossfire performance gain. Still, if you are looking to get the most out of your Crossfire setup, then the X48 is the weapon of choice.

Edit: I changed my mind. I'd take the 8800GT SLI over the GTX 260. The 8800GTs are much faster than the single GTX 260. Look here for some performance numbers. At around $250, it's faster than a 4870. Of course you lose expandability and gain all the scaling issues, etc. But faster than a 4870 for $250? :shock: Got my attention.

I'd go for an HD 4870, so that you can use a P45 motherboard and switch to crossfire later on.
