32-Bit vs 64-Bit

What would be better with my current specs and also what is the difference?

The reason I ask is because I just scored a free copy of 64-Bit XP and Vista...

If I was you I would wait for the new EFI boards, the bios follower and install Vista 64 when you got one.

Your CPU would be fairly slow on Vista i think.

Vista uses superfetch to fill unused RAM. It enables programs to open faster by having key aspects of them already open. So, it uses the RAM to good effect and it can be turned off if you're stingey.

By god, do not install Vista on a +3xxx series. I tried that with an old Emachines computer and it slowed to a crawl when booting up and doing system-intensive tasks. Your RAM amount is fine, though.

64 bit uses more ram, Vista uses more resources.

64 bit has the capacity to have more RAM installed; Vista uses more resources than XP. Just to clarify.

Vista works fine for me, not the fastest solution but it works well all in all with my 3400+.

Why Vista on that machine? You wont be able to run games on DX10 anyhow, since the CPU and VGA is too weak. IMO the only reason to get Vista is DX10 other then that it uses way more resources then XP, and only slows your machine down. And if you want a flashy desktop just mod XP a little bit you will have the same thing.

why are you so against XPx64? I've been using it on this build for over a year with no issues, no hard to find drivers, no programs that wont run on it. I had one x-fi issue that was corrected when they released an updated driver.

I think you are lucky sir. A lot of people have issues with this OS.
