        Re: [News]GTX280 & GTX260

The GTX260 performs the same as 2 8800GT's in SLI. So we do need to wait for that big price drop before considering to buy/suggest the GTX260.

Apparently, these two cards don't live up to their expectations.

/waiting for the 23rd or atleast around that time,

nvidia cards were supposed to hav dropped their prices upon hearing that the 4870's had 800SP instead of 400 (iirc) as first thought, didnt drop by much, we will hav to wait for the others to rear their heads.

Would this be a good time to make an 8800GT rig?

I'd wait until the mid range (ie GTS/ GT 260) comes out before committing to that.

Due to a **** up by Amazon, the specs of the 4850 are available:
AMD's Radeon 4850 briefly made a sales spot on Amazon and other sites, but was eventually taken down. Specs however, were revealed.

Don't want a 4850 its a budget card, I want the top shelf card HD4870.

The 4870 will be fairly close to the 4850 but with higher clock speeds, increased memory bandwidth and GDDR5 support.

£ is United Kingdom/Great Britain Pounds, correct? Just did a currency conversion on the GTX280 and you're telling me the card is going to be around $900 USD? WTF! That's insane. The GTX260 will be around $600.

If what cloakster said is true, why not just SLI two 8800GTs? You can get them for like $350-$400.

By the way, which nvidia card will be like an equal to the HD4870? And, would it be worth buying the HD4870 for a 1280 x 1024 resolution or not so much?
