Lan/Internet/Router: I need solutions please.

Hello TGN!

Well there is aprrox 3 weeks then i am heading home for the summer! my PC will be shipped in due time so i am happy as hell! but i need some solutions on some internet problems.

Now i have a Wireless Router. And the internet is setup in the study room hooked up to my old rig. The rig i am shipping back home will be put in my room. I get a real week signal. One of my friends suggested i get a longer cable and hook the router from the line socket in the study all the way to my room into my rig. Is that ok?

And i am in the market for a Lan card a powerful one but not high on the £££ any1 knows where i can get one? Please UK sites only. Thanks to anyone that helps out, i really appreciate this :)

I have hardwired my PC to the main router 10m away in the next room. Works fine

Gaming over wireless usually isn't the first choice... Cat5/Cat6 cable isn't very expensive and that would be the better way to go.

The maximum distance for 100Base-TX (standard ethernet cable) is 100 meters. you should be fine. :p

I use a nice 30M LAN cable which goes from my room, into the roof of my house and then down into our study where the router is located. Works a treat. Just need to drill a few holes in your ceiling.

NOTE: Do when parents are out.

I considered that, but value the use of the many and varied muscles below my neck.

Hmm interesting, i will buy the wires first thing as i arrive for the summer. Thanks guys, um well (Sava) wireless is the only way we could go (we as in my family) and you know to be honest, the web surfing is acceptable you know fair and gaming well BF2 and CoD4 (two of the main most played MP) i never get lag in them

Wow that sounds nice, but a little too complicated for me can anyone break it down a bit with a slightly better elaboration on the product please? If not then its fine i will just go with the extended wiring thing :)

It sends the network signal through your home's power supply; however, you would probably have to get this in Bahrain, as it is obviously dependent on the plug sockets in your house.

I use Wireless, never had a problem with gaming just make sure you have a good WiFi card. :)

Thats what i will try to find in my country i.e. a good one. If i can't get a really good one i wiil put the Network PCi card from my rig and install a wireless card in my old rig (which is now being used by my sister, casual user).


Oh and the plugs don't differ from Bahrain to London, they are identical :). Thats why i have my original electronics (chargers,adapters) in their original Bhr sockets on my dorm sockets with out any attachments.

I bought a 30m cable from ebay for cheap...
I misjudged the distance have have 15m of cable in a loop under my feet! :awes
