But, the whole point of this thread was in Snipers case. he has a 8800gts, so no, it's not worth it.

From a 7 series card maybe.

I disagree ..it is worth it unless he's running a OCed purchased version of the 8800GTX or higher. If lower than its worth it for the costs of the newer cards vs the costs of the up and coming cards in what the next 7months which again if you keep waiting you may as well give up and get a console and play on crappy graphics your unable to improve on.

So, why doesn't he just buy a 8800gts 512mb, get pretty much same performance and save a bundle?

Just a quick glance at the 8800GTS and the 9800GTX and I see a 60$ difference... thats hardly a bundle man..thats like me filling my gas tank up once and getting a happy meal from McDonalds.

Maybe not everyone is in the same financial position as you sava and $60 is alot to some after a while of saving money up for a new computer.

I never said I was well off...but 60$ is nothing in todays Economy as I just gave a real good example of it. 330$ is nothing for a Video card compared to the prices just a few years ago. I remember paying over 500$ for a 6800GT!!

However this is why consoles are becoming popular and a means to get simple graphics and gaming performance, just the ability of upgrading isn't there which is why PC Gaming markets will always rule the sales pipes.

Back in the early 90's one could mow 3-4 average sized yards and gain 60$ so its not hard to get...but then you have kids today that are rather lazy to earn it like that and would rather save from mom and dad's hand outs.

But I don't want to get too far off topic here...just clearing it up that the differences are major but the prices are not and thats how Nvidia has intended it vs the over pricing they handed people with the early releases of the 8series cards.

                $60 = £30

Dan's right, to students, that's a lot of money. When i bought my camera, the next version up was £30 more. Whilst it may not seem a lot, the difference between spending £100 and £130 was pretty big for me.

£30 is almost a weeks grocery shopping here, you could get two good nights out on it. So, don't start telling me how little $60 (£30) is, because your not in my position.

um well, it depends on your budget col. Dark-Knight, like if ur willing not to spend a lot like minimal spending a 9600GT, if u wish to spend a tad higher 88GT or HD3870XT, or if u want to spend a lot 88GTX/98GTX (but i would take 88GTX more memory :) only if u wish to spend like a lot of $$$)

I was thinking about the XFX one but the zotac one has 700 mhz core clock and 2000 mhz memory clock.Where the xfx has only 600mhz and 1800mhz.I'll be honest and tell you that i don't know if thats a real big help but it seemed like it would be worth the extra 20 bux.

you could probably overclock the XFX one to what the zotac one is at
