Much more effective to get an old radiator from junk yard and bury that. He wouldn't have to dig so much. Or get an old freezer and use it.

the water mains was from a few years ago, but i dont think he use's them anymore just that tangle of pipes on the wall, but he was a serious overclocker/benchmarker so it stands to reason that he would push the boundry a bit.

It's called geothermal cooling, I'm running water 18inches below the ground so the temps stay around the same all year round (6-9°C) unaffected by frost. I have a large pond pump that pumps the water underground where it gets cooled down so it can cool down my motherboard and vid cards.

... back to the real world. Why the hell would you do that???

To have a virtually silent water cooling loop without the need for fans, with the pump only drawing 35w it's also very cheap to run.

If that were the case I would have posted this in the many forums I am a member off. I only posted the pics for a friend on my UKAW clan forum, thinking nobody else would see them. I was supprised to accidentally find this post whilst searching for some E8500 info.
I've always has a thirst for a faster PC (don't we all) I got into 'extreme' PCs a few years back when I was into competitive benchmarking but now due to lack of time and RL stuff I only get to game a few nights a week and having a fast PC helps me out in that respect.

It is very effective, the drive was dug up to put in a new water mains and I put the copper pipes in on a 'spur of the moment' decision. The hole was already there so I used it, I was re-laying the drive with block paving anyhow. I didn't dig the drive up just for that you know

Chest freezer units can cool water but they are expensive to run, cool the water down too much (Condensation problems) and cannot maintain cool temps when used for long periods. My passive 'radiator' can maintain 9-10°C water temps even after 12 hours solid gaming and is virtually free to run. I could have buried a radiator but the 100M of copper tubing I opted for has a much greater surface area to remove any heat that has been put into the loop.

I wish I would be able to say yes, but I figure the real gains for me going from E6750 to E8xxx series are just not worth the price at the moment. I'd rather dump the money, if I had any extra now, on the new graphics card.
