      But, surely you'd go for the 12mb cache model?

        Exactly my sentiments. Most of the performance increase anyone sees is due to cache size. You can get more MHz out of the processor, but DIY soldering of more L2 is not looking too viable option to me

        I'd like to see how fast Q9450 can go hertz wise.

              This article gives a good idea of the speed gains in games of the new 45nm core generation over the old 65nm. The only difference the processors (QX9650 and QX6850) have here is the increased L2 size.

              So this would make it clear to everybody that don't go for the cheapest model if the model with bigger L2 is within reasonable price distance.

              The new quads will be at 4GHz mark and that should be plenty enough to anyone.

                Here's an OC guide to E8400. It also has screenies of BIOS settings and as such gives a pretty good idea how OC is done.

                The whole E8xxx series looks very good. All models feature 6MB L2, which IMO is a very good thing.

                  the mad clocker in our clan got an E8500, its clocked at 4,6 even though 3dmark saya otherwise he did get to 4.8 though.

                  Bit of a wierd benchmark this one, I gained 2000 points by using SLI but if I use a quad core I will gain over 3000 points, not really a good indication of real gaming performance IMO. If you use 3dmark03 it is nearly all GPU dependent and 3dmark01 is all about CPU/FSB speeds (good for testing your best CPU overclocks).

                  E6600 @ 455FSB x 9 = 4106mhz
                  8800GTX's SLI @ 675/2000

                  IDLE TEMPS:
                  GPU = 22°C
                  CPU = -55°C

                  LOAD TEMPS
                  GPU = 25°C
                  CPU = -48°C

                  bt

                  I still have some work to do on cable management inside the case, but it's not too messy.

                  Dont know where to start around the back of the PC!!! HELP

                  A nice cool 9C for my water, the 39.5C is the lowest the "High Temp Alarm" will go down to

                  Heres a look inside my box of tricks that gets my processor down to -65C

                  pushing it beyond the limits of a poor little E6600!!

                  Look, even more pipes outside....MUHAHAHAH.....

                  I tried to keep the pipes away from each other as much as possible when putting the sand on top.

                  What you say? I'm crazy.....

                  whatever......Frag-on!

                  bt

                                Much more effective to get an old radiator from junk yard and bury that. He wouldn't have to dig so much. Or get an old freezer and use it.

                                And I very much doubt the effectivity of his system.
