Assitance Needed!

posted before on this on bf2 & coh:of troubles but i wasnt getting many replies so ive decided to post another thread.

anyways i my new pc last friday working fine until i start playing bf2 & coh:of. when i am playing bf2 after about 10 minutes the computer restarts. it also happens on coh but at least 1 1/2 hours after i am playing. also in bf2 when i right click to zoom the screen goes black.

since the last thread i have unchecked the automatically restart box in the startup and recovery box in advanced - properties - my computer

since that instead of restarting the screen goes blue and it says a problem has been detected an windows has shut down to prevent further etc. it then says the problem seems to be caused by the file win32k.sys

after that it says
page_fault_in_nonpaged_area after that it has other stuff about contacting the administritator.

then it has techinical information:
stop:0x00000050 (0xe189d304, 0x00000000, 0xbf8b525f, 0x000000001

win32k.sys - address bf8b525f base at bf 8000000, datestamp 41107f7a


any help is appreciated

I would test your ram by booting a memtest86 cd.

takes about 90min to run 1 complete cycle.

that would take weeks to get here since i live in Australia. does that problem usually happen if the memory is bad?

You can download a CD image so you can burn your own bootable CD.
Just choose "free download"

This one I would think, gzip is probably intended for linux.

I guess you could mount the image with some tool, but the whole point of a bootable CD is that you don't need to load your OS, so that would be counter-productive.

had the same problem with ati's november drivers running LOTRO, catalyst 7.11. updated to 7.12 which fixed it.

you have have to burn the file to a cd as a bootable .iso, then boot your pc with that CD.

had the same problem with ati's november drivers running LOTRO, catalyst 7.11. updated to 7.12 which fixed it.

how do i check what catalyst driver i have?

try start > run > dxdiag

should be in there somewhere.

ive already checked there and it has a different driver but i checked in help>about in the ccc and it said driver version 2007.1102.etc
is that where is says the ccc driver?

that version of ccc gave me the same problem. not saying it will fix your issue, but it did for me.

well i just updated to 7.12 on ccc & got hlf2 deathmatch & lost coast free!
but, i went to play bf2, the screen went black as normal and then nothing happened and then it crashed back to the desktop & i was playing fine 30mins ago. but it went back to the error screen when i quit bf2 before.

and i just downloaded cpu-z and the cpu speed keeps jumping from 2666 to 2000?
and the memory speed is 400mhz. since its ddr2 is its true speed 800mhz?

Intel speed step,to reduce power when idling the processor lowers the mutiplier hence why u see the lower clocks,once a intensive application start the multiplier stays at its regular value.and yes 400 mhz is 800mhz.
