I play DX10 Crysis on medium...with a supposedly mid-end part..

The DX10 features are only unlocked when using the very high settings

BTW, you can run them on DX9 as im using windows xp and can run very high

Having problems with it.. I knew it wouldn't boot up, I thought it was the power-supply, so I put the one from my computer onto it, still didn't boot up. So then I was clueless, I took the 3.20 processor out of the new computer and put it into my dell, then my dell wouldn't boot up. So I would think its the processor that isn't allowing it to work, correct? If so should I just use the 2.66 one out of my dell, or buy a new one? Going to get a new card monday, if yall think the one I posted is good enough. Possibly a processor also. Need advice on it though..

Obvious suggestion- stick the CPU from the Dell into that machine to ensure that is is the CPU.

8500gt is a horrible card for gaming.

x1950pro (agp) is the cat's meow, but would need at least a 450W psu (or actually just a decent number of amps on the +12V rail)

7800gs isn't bad, but it isn't worth it compared to x1950pro if you can find it.

for pci-e, hd3850 (low end ~$160) is the way to go, don't even look at nVidia's low end. for mid end, hd3870 ($200-220) or 8800gt (better card, $260-ish) is the way to go.

the mid-end ati cards are more forgiving of psu's because of the new manufacturing process. they just don't eat as much energy as before.

edit: misspoke...if you can find a 7600gt, that's a very good low-end (almost middlish) part for ~$100. no dx10, but you wouldn't want to try dx10 on a (edit) lower-end part, anyway.

i know the 8500gt is a horrible card for gaming but if hes only playing 1.6 it'll be fine & im getting 512mb 3850

No, he might as well get the 8600GT for slightly more and actually have a half-decent card- it's almost twice as powerful as the 8500.

at this point, the only decent new agp cards are x1950pro and 7800gs, in that particular order.

x850xt's, x800xt's (<--my former card, excellent for < 1024x768), 6800gt's (edit) and 7600gs's are on ebay for fairly reasonable prices. have to poke around a little for new ones.

these are all great *old* agp cards that would perform as well if not better than the current midrange from nvidia, which is best suited for excel, at 55 fps.

x850 and x800 need a decent psu (antec 380W was what i used w/overclocked x800xt) to keep the electrons flowing.

edit: it isn't great, but it would keep you from lagging on medium-ish/low settings @ 1024x768

Thanks mega, good info there. I wasn't sure about ATI cards, but I might just get that x1950pro looking at it. Thing is at best buy I get a 60% off, so if its at bestbuy I will buy it in a second. If not I'll go with the 7800gs/7600gs because I know its there.
