It's Independence Day FFS it's not supposed to have an amazing story line, or particulary good acting. It's liking going to see the fast and the furious for the romance.

Well then doesn't an amazing story line and good acting (out of some things) make a good movie?

And plus, you could always just say that Fast and Furious was... a bad movie. (Second being worse than the first.)

Shoot Them Up doesn't have a great story line, but the film is still great entertainment.

Oh I'm fully aware that reviewing movies takes no level of genius at all. I'm also aware not everything has to have depth, but if we look at good movies that everyone can get into that also has explosions or battles or both we can find a whole range of them, like for instance, Star Trek, Lord of the Rings, the sinking parts in Titanic were cool, Oceans 11, Top Gun (apparently), Die Hard 4, POTC, Star Wars, The Matrix, some superhero films and so on.

Independence Day, Godzilla, Rambo, Hancock -- anyone from all ages can agree that crap is crap.

I don't usually rate films but I'd give 7/10 as that's pretty much the best way for me to describe it. If I were a teacher and this was writing a report it would be: B- Could be better.

It was cool, if a little unexplained.

but if we look at good movies that everyone can get into that also has explosions or battles or both we can find a whole range of them, like for instance, Star Trek, Lord of the Rings, the sinking parts in Titanic were cool, Oceans 11, Top Gun (apparently), Die Hard 4, POTC, Star Wars, The Matrix, some superhero films and so on.

I think what he means is, crap is crap, even if people still like it.

There are many instances of things that are "popular" just because the media makes it "cool" to pop culture. Doesn't necessarily mean it's any good.

Statistically, films that have greater critic approval usually do better at the theatres overall. There are examples that oppose that logic but if you look at it collectively, my point is valid and provable. I can't find the article that showed it, somewhere on RT, but its surprisingly the case.
