Just bought e6600. Tell me I did Ok. :)...pls?

Ok, so I built a rig back in april planning on a quad (q6600)...but after much deliberation i decided on a used e6600 for $150 +$15 shipping. half the price of the quad...but also not many apps taking advantage of 4 cores atm.

What kinds of differences can i expect from going from an oc'd pentium d 915 @ 3.5 ghz to an e6600 @ stock (or fairly heavy o'c as i have a thermalright si-128 that has been begging me to be installed for the past two months...).

    rest of relevant specs are:

    x1950xt + coolermaster cooler for max o'c
    asus p5b-e (p965 rev limiting mem to 2.1v )
    ddr2 @ oc'd to 1066 5-5-5-15 (will run @ 4-4-4-12 @ 800mhz also)

oh, and i'm hoping to get $60 or $70 for my 915. it's one of the better steppings, and overclocks VERY well. if any tbf2'ers need an lga775 dual core proc., send me a pm. :) support included at no extra cost--i'm typing using this processor right now.

i've also been thinking about upgrading to a 680i LT...thoughts?

At stock I bet it will still completely wipe the floor with that old 915.

are you serious that you got an e6600 for 150? I paid 180 for my e6300 when they first came out...

Duh, it's been almost a year since they were released, and I doubt he bought it retail.

                http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=270154994539

i contacted the seller last week for another processor. at any rate, paypal guarantees up to $200 so i'm covered for fraud.

just hope there aren't any outstanding issues with used e6600's (there rarely are--silicon either works for 10 years or faults after 2 months).

you take your chances w/ebay but for ~$100 savings...i think its worth the gamble. i wish the q6600 were nearly as cheap as advertised...

oh well. c2d, here i come...hopefully. will post back w/results. maybe even do a few before-and-after benchmarks for the community if anyone is interested...?

The E6600 is a overclocking madman. Check out mine in my sig!
Get a decent mobo and aftermarket HSF and your laughing!

Isn't Xeon a different architecture too or is that just the name for server cpu's?

And here I was jealous of mega for saying he was going to go all out quad core on us.. Now he joined the E6600 fan club lol :)

the E6600 is very good, I have one. Most people get the C2Ds thats aren't even as fast and still have great performance. Probably lots of jealous eyes here.

Most are, the X3210 is based on Core 2 Architecture - it's identical to the now cancelled "Q6400", and seeing as mine is running at 2.8 GHz and will do about 3.2 GHz max imo it's a great buy
