BF2 and Vista: Nothing but problems..

    Hello fellow gamers,

I just did a clean install of windows vista today and it's not working when I try to play BF2. It won't connect to servers. It gets stuck on "Verifying client data" and then it completely disconnects from servers.

Is there a fix for this?

Not sure if there is a way to fix the exact message but there are some things you can try...

When running BF2, right click on the icon and click "Run As Administrator"

    try that...

then if no luck try, right click on the BF2 icon, select properties... then under compatability tab, select the compatabiliy mode as Windows XP w/SP2

and let me know how that goes.

You have to run BF2 as the administrator.

          Hi :)

I did that already and it was still giving me crap. So I said screw it, and I formatted and installed windows XP. :)

Now things are running a lot better. :)

There ya go, that'll fix it, ...and next time your car breaks down, don't fix it, just get a horse.

Just make sure the horse is faster at getting you to your destination, more reliable and works better on the currently existing roads network.

you have a high points server in your favourites...

                (arent they against the rules?)

Dude those are like everywhere... Karky i/o 32 player cap limit on large maps - some servers even have less people on large maps. I don't think anyone cares and if someone does, than I am guilty for playing on servers with 32-48 player caps on a large map.

50-64 people and it is a nade forest half the time... Idunno, I've gone back to medium anyways.. Too much running around =P

Not that I know of? I've seen several high points servers when I did a search. Don't you think EA would have disabled the server if it wasn't allowed?

The USMC clan has been around for a while now, so I'm not going to worrry about it.

                    BTW, what is the difference?

More reliable? Don't make me laugh.

Anyway, you probably should have tried updating PB.

If I spent £200 on Vista, I sure as f*ck wouldn't be uninstalling it the next day.

                        Nuff said.

Glad to see you aren't denying that it's faster and works better with currently existing hardware and software though.

Fair enough it's more reliable but so what? If you aren't able to run anything on it then you're never gonna use it ergo it's never gonna break down on you.

I'll install it again when more bugs are fixed.

I've been using it since it came out. XP is miles faster because of drivers. Vista x64 cripples Ring 0 access to everything but Microsoft signed crap, hence half the things don't work as they should. With the exception of Zonealarm (no 64-bit), every single 64-bit capable piece of software is working fine on this.

The only time I BSOD on this thing is using nVidia's latest crippleware beta drivers. Hasn't yet broken from the OS itself. It does remind me of Windows ME though. Good thing this is an intermediate stage, just Microsoft's version of saying "Meh, 7 years with no new OS is enough, let's chuck out a half-done pile".
