The Windows firewall has always only ever been a way firewall until Vista, and even then you have to you have to go to the configuration settings to show/enable the outbound control; or use a 3rd party app like this,

That and I am behind a router, so except for possibly wanting to monitor outbound traffic through a firewall, I don't need the Windows one. When I was running XP I was using Sygate, and waiting for something comparable for Vista to come along (and not Zone Alarm).

I am having some major issues with Vista 64 Ultimate. I have built several Vista 32bit systems and I just built this new system, with Ultimate 64.

I installed all my games (Halo 2, Ghost Recon III: Advanced War Fighter, CS Source Pack, Halo PC) with no issues until I installed BF2. I have a DVD Version of "Complete Battlefield 2 Collection" CD. It installs fine until I go to install the 1.41 drivers. It literally locks up my system. It has done this several times. I have tried running in WinXP SP2 mode and I have added all Administrative privs.

Any thoughts on this?

Anyone think this could be the missing Keystring value causing this?

Oh well give this a try.

Now I dunno if this works on Vista but it sure works on XP, although the issue isn't with the patch locking the system up but rather the patch not being able to find the install directory.

Go to 'Start' 'run' Type 'regedit'

Now go to

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE ----> SOFTWARE ----> EA GAMES ----> Battlefield 2

You should have three values in the Windows on the right

Default
DisplayName
InstallDir

Chances are the last one may be missing.

If it is then right click in the right windoe and select New ---> Keystring change it's name to InstallDir then right click on it and select 'modify'. Now in 'Value Data' type the location of Battlefield 2. If it's the default directory then it's

'C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2'
