Only the default (TGN Light) theme for now. Dark them is also coming back soon. Then CSN. Then Wrestlin' Nation. A lot of WIP stuff right now. There are a couple of things still not working either. Sorry.
I would imagine that not grabbing page files of upwards of 2 Gig and needing a process time to run a fancy looking interface also helps to make XP faster.

Aero quits when you run a game. Not sure what you mean by the page file remark.
Either way, if your PC can handle Vista, it's a nice experience.
Page file? The amount of RAM required by Vista or any OS to run itself. I've read many reports of people running versions of Vista that have grabbed over 2Gig of RAM just to sit there looking pretty. Mind you you do have a point about the Aero Interface not requiring resource whilst running a game.

Have you actually used Vista, or just go by what you have read?

That's the Superfetch service working like it should. Vista's memory management is miles better than XP's.
It took off the 62% loading time freeze bug for me. Went from around 4 minute load times (3 minutes or so at 62% loading what I assume are lightmaps) to arund 45 seconds now, all high back then and now, even with 2GB of RAM.
Still don't understand what you're talking about the page file, it's almost exactly like XP when it comes to that.
no kiddin ...Vista is way, way better at RAM management ...more efficient. I went from three minutes to load a map to 10 seconds. You should keep reading if you think XP is better than Vista.

Funny... I use XP32 and my map load times range from less than 5 seconds (yes, even after verification is done too!) to 45 seconds.
I wish I could give an accurate loading time but I don't sit there and time it. I think it would take me longer to try to time it in the first place... Sometimes I click bam boom I'm in already.
I'm waiting on vista64 - everything else is marshmellows.
That's nice a 6 month old review z(and from Tom's no less), which still says to me you're basing your opinion on what you have read rather than first hand experience.
I installed Vista on a mates computer and within seconds of trying to install his AV and FW it turned out that it wouldn't work on Vista. GPU drivers were rubbish but that didn't matter since Oblivion didn't run (although that issue is now fixed) but to this day he still can't get STALKER to run for more than five minutes. His Sound card drivers plain just don't install either.
Now alot of this is down to driver and software issue and that is really kind of my point. MS released a half finished OS and apparently changed alot of things at the last minute which gave alot of hardware makers headaches. Nvidia had to re do their GPU drivers and I am sure I read somewhere about EAX on sound cards not working, at least until Creative sorted the drivers.
The point is since Vista doesn't offer ANY significant advantage for gaming and does, at least for now, offer opportunity for some serious headaches why run out and pay MS £150 to bug test a half finished OS. Especially taking in to consideration that their should be XP SP3 out later this year as well.
Wait a year, let the drivers come along, let them get all the little programs I like to use up and working on Vista and then upgrade. I am not saying never upgrade Iam just saying give it a bit of time.

Did you check to see if they were even compatible with Vista, or that there was an updated version that was compatible?

You don't say how long ago, but Nvidia's Vista drivers have come a long way in the recent releases (can't speak to ATI as I don't have an ATI card). Now the performance in Vista for me is close enough to XP to not really matter (in the games that I play).

You read wrong. EAX on Creative cards is unchanged if the game uses OpenAL (BF2, Bf2142, and quite a few more), for games that use DS3D Creative came out with Alchemy that translates DS3D calls to OpenAL thus restoring full EAX and hardware sound to those games.

Two words, dual boot, that is how I made the transition to Vista. Allows you to use Vista and try things out, and if you find enough things (I have found alternatives to almost anything that wouldn't work in XP) that won't work in Vista, you can still use them in XP. If nothing else it gives you something to base what you say about Vista a basis in fact rather than what you may have read on some web site.

The software isn't out of the box Vista compatible, there is a patch for it but the comical thing is you need the software to be pre installed for the patch to work and since Vista kicks the installer before it can install the software it renders the patch totally ineffective. I have noticed that a Vista version of the software has now appeared in the shops but since it's been opened the shop won't take it back.

About a month ago, true the drivers are better now and I agree they will get better and at some point Vista performance will no doubt out do XP. Especially when Dx10 really starts kicking in but that doesn't get round the fact that one of the games he bought, STALKER, still refuses to run correctly on Vista despite the Vista patch being applied to it. Now I can't say for sure that had he run XP instead, STALKER wouldn't have the same problem but his system isn't to far dis-similar to my own and I can run STALKER flawlessly.

Fair enough, have they sorted the OpenGL issues yet?
My experiences of Vista to date have been trying to solve nothing but problems and no real advantage to make up for them. Like I said I installed my mates version of Vista a month and a bit ago and to this date it still doesn't work right. I installed XP on my system and had everything up and running in under 6 hours and to date it has run without a single issue.
Maybe my judgement is clouded by this but I look at this way. I can spend two days trying to solve why that new game I bought doesn't work in Vista. Finally get it working and receive no noticable advantage within the game or I can install it on XP and have it working in 15 minutes and then spend that two days playing the game.
