Did you format (not quick format) the drive as NTFS under xp, or just delete the partition?

Might try using different SATA ports...

Otherwise, (as unlikely as I would have thought) there's a possibility ~^^^ may be right--your hd might be fried, or possibly your southbridge. Can you try a different HD?

bah,i did the quick format,didnt know what nfts meant so i choose quick thinkign it would eb quicker:cry:

Quick format is quicker, but it simply instructs the drives index to be empty.

Guessing NTFS was probably your only option if you didn't see it--that's the current file structure, as opposed to FAT16(win95) and FAT32(98,ME).

Your hard drive is f*cked. Give it up. I spent f*cking ages toying with a PC that did similar. Run CHKDSK /R and see what it says. If it keeps coming up with random different bad sector counts or freezes, then you know the HDD has taken a ****.

That happn'd to me once, & it was my hard drive, went out of its limits & crashed & burnned.
