    Re: Nvidia 8600 DX10 out now !!!

Well... i got ripped off a bit.

I bought the Nvidia BFG 7600gtoc from ebay in November 2006 and it cost me the grand total of: $180

and looking at your chart, how can you get 40fps at 1600x1200 High/4xAA. I can, at max play mine at 1280x1024 all high/0xAA. But normally, i play 1024x768 all high, but I meet the 100FPS cap in BF2. Just means that i get no lag at all, even if artillary is going off whith 64people around me, whilst 5 planes fly over and 4 choppers are dropping flares.

.by the time that becomes more of an issue the prices will be down enough to justify a higher end purchase.
That and by the time that happens, Nvidia will probably be into their second generation DX10 cards.

They were thinking about selling lots of exceptionally well-decorated cardboard boxes in the $100-150 price range that say "Fully DX10 Compatible" on the side
being first out of the gate does not always make it a winner. I haven't seen too many people recommending these cards on any computer forum. Sad part is most of the people that are going to be buying these cards don't know/visit computer forums or at least research what they are buying first (sort of like all those people that have turned up here wondering why there dell "gaming" computer can't play BF2 on the high quality onboard video).

wow...I only paid $150 for my MSI NX7600GT. I ran mine at 1280X1024 High no AA. I FRAPped with it at 25-30FPS with no issues.

I recently went Dual-Core Opteron and added a BFG7950GTOC so FPS are not an issue for me I can run 1280x1024 High 4xAA and FRAP with no issues. BF2 gets the second core all to its little lonesome ROFL

As for the chart, one of the Total guys posted it so I don't know the true source or conditions of the test

I was seriously considering buying the 7950GTOC by BFG, the best 7 series card there is but I thought the 8800 GTS would give me more dept without having to upgrade yet again later. There are several games coming out that are DX 10: Crysis, Shadow Run, Alan Wake, UT3, Flight Sim X, EVE online, and Hellgate: London. When is yet to be seen, of course.

Right you are. However, I'd point out that if you count all the different letters beside all the different cores, nVidia is first out of the gate some 20 times over with respect to DX10. I mean, you've got the 8800xxxxtxxxoc, now the 8600xxtssgt, and lest we forget the entry-level 8500xxxtraturbo.

As has been rehashed here before, there isn't a killer app that needs DX10 yet. Likely, there won't be for quite some time. Crytek would be shooting themselves in the foot if they uglied-up Crysis to (essentially) subsidize the new M$ O$. The market fundamental tells us that people buy cards to play games. Show me must-have games that require or are very significantly enhanced by DX10 and I'll show you a market of willing lemmings.

'Course, that doesn't mean it's a good choice. HDR can be used for very nice effect, but that doesn't mean you'd want to turn it on with an x1300/x1600"pro" unless you're satisfied with 680x540.

 nVidia offers a product. If Joe doesn't think enough of his $150 to google the contents of his "Fully DX10 Compatible Green Box". I don't feel sorry in the least for Joe. And remember, little nVidiots like to eat, too, and their guardVidians are thanking old Joe all the way to the bank. :)

Personally, I expect that the people who thought they just had to have a DX10 card got one when the BFGeeThat'sExpensive8800gt4xsquared was released. Time will tell!

Actually, that's ATI's naming convention. nVidia uses easy names such as 7850GTXSR21024-OC-Super*Cool*-Ultra-MADEINCHINA.

Thanks...I wasn't aware of the entire list.

at SpokLAN we are huge BFG Tech fans. One of the guys just bought their 8800GTX(I believe it was) model. He runs Vista Ultimate on that machine with no issues. Beyond that he has nothing that really makes that card work hard. YET :)

I wish I could wait that long, right now my xtx feels so slow. :p

Just waiting for the r600 to come out is killing me, but I have my new q6600 (coming in next week) to tide me over.

I bet your one of the guys who tests hardware before its released. I know a guy who works for Frontline testing and he has been trying out the R600 for the last few weeks (he was only told it was an R600 a few days ago). Says it damn good!

These cards are turds. nVidias biggest mistake since the FX series IMO.

Right now there are 8800gts 320mb cards for $230-260 after rebates, even less in the next few weeks(ATI coming too remember?).

Already mentioned several times are the current 7900's and x1950's...both of which are a but a few happy meals away in price from these new 8600 cards, and both superior.

So the 8600's have DX10 eh? Wow, I even saw one with a Stalker logo on it from a link here...and a very witty reply by someone that the card couldn't possibly achieve a good framerate in a game like Stalker, using that card.

The same will apply for future games, but be even worse. Face it, the 128bit memory interface simply cripples the card. The test clearly show it to be not so great. The jump from the 6600gt to the 7600gt for example, was probably triple the upgrade this card is going to offer over current 7600gt users, maybe more.

The 8600 series should be $120 or less. And I bet they will be before the end of May.
