^ By all accounts I've seen, the new hi-end ATIAMD parts should spank nVidia's current offerings at both the price and performance level. nVidia is looking to transition to a 45nm process by 2008...so they may take back steam then, if ATIAMD haven't worked out the kinks involved in shrinking gpu silicon.
nVidia will probably drop the price on their high end 8800gtx and (especially) the 8800gts, but then they run into the problem of no one buying a retail 8600 when the 8800gts will probably be found for half a c-note more (that's ~25lbs, more if you consider the inflated prices, for you cross-ponders :) ) for a much, much, much better product.
My guess is that we'll see the lion's share of 8600's showing up in "FULL DX10 COMPATIBLE!!!" computers from OEM builders like Dell and HP.
