Their first bullet point really shows how little MS gives a crap about an actual Desktop work space both in this and Windows 8:

Show of hands, how many people here actually have and/or use touch screens on their desktop or laptop? Yeah, that's what I figured.

While I would more likely buy a Windows 8 tablet over an iPad I too dislike their sudden but not too unexpected push from traditional PC software.

It's not perfect though. I have no idea if it's possible to go directly to the original source article with Currents but this tends to give you a good overview of the news if you're on a phone and don't like the built in web browsers yet still need a TGN fix (haha).

I could (and probably should) go section by section here (Battlefield, Valve, CoD, General News) instead of the all encompassing news feed. But so far it's the Main Page news, Quickhits, and the YouTube channel.

Need to figure out how to do a better header instead of just generic "total gaming network" up at the top. And it's truncated some of the news for some reason. I have a feeling it's because of the particular RSS feed URL I'm using which may also be another reason why I go for the separate sections. I have a feeling I know what will fix that.
