As a couple of folks pointed out the problem with the ice sticking to itself is due to the design and nature of the way most fridges work. It's not as much to do with the door opening and closing as it is with the way the cooling system inside the unit itself works.

Basically a fridge works similar to the air conditioner in a home however it does so on a much smaller scale. The basic design revolves around the coolant that is circulated through evaporator coils underneath. As the coolant circulates through the coils it releases heat and becomes extremely cold. The point in the internal system where the liquid circulates as it's coldest is where the interior fan is usually placed so that as the fan blows it circulates cold air throughout the fridge.

Now the design problem that is at the root of your frustration is humidity or simply put water. Most fridges actually have vents that connect from the lower fridge to the upper freezer. The problem is the moisture that is contained in your household foods. As the fridge cycles temperature the moisture slowly escapes into the environment within the fridge. This moisture cycles up through the internal vents and into the freezer where it contacts the items in the freezer and refreezes. Most freezer portions of fridges actually go through a defrost cycle periodically to keep the buildup to a minimum. So if you've ever wondered why your ice cream is sometimes softer at times and then hard as a brick at other times that's why. Also, the circulation from lower fridge to upper freezer explains why said ice cream can sometimes have a hint of last weeks leftovers. Also, why ziploc type bags work so well...good moisture in bad moisture stays out.

Now GE actually makes a fridge that addresses these issues. It has a separate system for the freezer and the fridge as well as a dehumidifying component in the freezer to keep it a dry cold.

Now the best solution for your problem is a simple Coleman camping type ice chest. The kind with a drain on the side and a good sealing upper lid. Simply load it up with the ice and close it. Put it on the kitchen counter with the drain open and hanging just a bit over the sink so it can drain. The ice should stay reasonably separated and you don't have to buy anything too expensive.

And those commercial ice machines...If you look at them there is always a condensation drain at the bottom or back of the machine somewhere. And there is always some water sitting at the bottom because the ice keeps itself cool instead of a huge condenser and fan. The only condenser normally on the unit is the one that cools the area that that has the ice trays.

Ugh... thats the impression I get from the people that buy s##t from work. Especially ones that CHANGE THEIR DAMN ORDER AFTER ORDERING 8 ITEMS! (I work at the back) or take ages to decide on what changes they want on their burger, changing stuff several times before they finally decide.

The next gen consoles will probably come in 2020 at the rate game "Progress" (read: Money making schemes) are going. Some people speculate (my source: Extra credits on the escapist. Too lazy to look for video) that because of the Kinect and the Move, the current gen consoles are going to be kept for a while because Microsuck and Phony (Hur hur... I maed a funneh) have put too much money in both peripherals to just abandon them within a year.

Sorry about my side brackets... just finished a rather short shift at Mcdonalds (only 4 hours! Yay!) but I still feel dead.

Random thought: Ugh... G&L mardi gras tonight. If I could I would barracade my doors, board up my windows and keep a shotgun in one hand and a bible in the other... stupid australian gun laws...

TGN doesn't do enough to get new users. Separating the tournaments was a bad idea. There's only ever 35-40 members online. You can't build a community on a forum where the most popular section is the off topic section. There are no affiliations with any other websites except for copy and pasting news either. The worst part is, that's simple business, you make partners it helps build up your profile.
