what do u mean dream on i got it right which way does the case fan blow inward's ? i dont think so the cpu fan need's to remove the hot air away not give it a sauna '''' so there :p

thanks for your reply, i have temporarely opend the case and put a big room fan towards the pc, ive put the fan on "2" and this is helping, my pc is a couple of weeks old, the heatsink is still clean i checked and i fitted it in properly. i think i need more fans, now i know my cpu fan is good, i put my pc on standby, 5 secs later i switched it on and my cpu fan went from 1600 rpm to 4700 rpm and wouldnt slow down, something is wierd......

I'm guessing you're 12 years old and have just opened a computer, so you must therefore be completely correct?

That's quite bad, 4700 rpm is nuts unless your fan has half the surface area of mine.

Download Speedfan and tell us what temps you're getting.

Mills777, if all your case fans are blowing outwards, how is any cooler air coming in? Exatly.

Also, the CPU doesnt just need the air around it to be cold, the CPU itself has to be cold. Thats why the fan blows air on the cpu. Perfect quote to use:

as i said in my first post, i have downloaded speedfan, my idle temp is about 37C and when i play bf2 its about 72C- on my old pc my temp barley went up by 10C. its wierd, having a fan placed on the side thats open reduces temp to about 62C so it is helping but i cant keep it like this. i will get some fans in the case if that helps! about 4700, when i take my pc of standby i have speedfan running and temp is 34C aprx and fan hits 4700 for no reason, and my CPU starts getting colder and colder. can it be a hardware error? but now i know my fan is capable of cooling my CPU sooo why should it overheat??? theres sumink to think about! and as for mills, if you take heat away from a CPU what will it do---- yes thats right it will generate more heat!

btw, by default Speedfan is set to put the fans to 100% when closed. There is a way to disable this feature.

Alright, that should NOT be happening. The highest temp my CPU gets to is 52C, and that's with a torture test. BF2 is nothing...

Have you got CLEAN, WELL APPLIED thermal paste on the heatsink-CPU interface? Is your heatsink fully fixed? Is your heatsink/heatsink fan CLEAN AND FREE OF DUST BUNNIES?


Also, is your CPU fan spinning? Have you opened your PC and checked, specifically when it says "4700 rpm" in speedfan? I'm just trying to go out of the way here, I know that sounds like a retarded question.

you definately have some cooling problems, and it sounds like its definitely the cpu heatsink/fan. you should not be hitting 72c, and definately not 60+ with the computer sides off. you might try removing the sink, cleaning the cpu and sink off and re-applying new thermal paste.

i shall send my pc off to a technition to fix it, and camper, i also said i removed my cover and put a fan on the pc, the first time it went to 4700 i said wtf? so i tried it again and ran speedfan with the case open and my cpu fan was going faster! thanks for your help ( my pc takes a long time to come back if i send it to a tech thats why im asking here

the cpu could be auto adjusting the fan based on cpu temp, so if the cpu is overheating its definitely going to run the fan at max.

lol! Regarding whether the fan blows towards the heat sink or away...well you're both right. It can blow EITHER towards or away depending on the design of the heatsink/fan set up. Which way is better is a matter of debate, and all you have to do is Google 'cpu fan direction' to read about it.
Mine blows away - all you have to do is stick your hand in front of the cpu fan and feel the hotter air blowing at you.

lol thanks for that, ok new answer, i run speedfan, i put my pc on standby and i turn it back on- CPU fan 4700. i turn pc off because it doesnt stop. i turn on pc i put it on standby without running speed fan, turn it back on- CPU fan speed-normal

As said sounds like the heatsink could be seated badly meaning poor conduction of heat
