right, recently having problems with cpu

i have a intel pentium 4 - 2 cpu processor 3.02 ghz
when im not doing anything my cpu temp is around 35. when i start plaing battlefield 2 it jumps to 50 and starts increasing when im acctually in a server. the highest was 75c and it lagged like hell, now i read about my processor and they never overheat (LOL!) they slow themselves down so they dont burn, that explains lag when my fan speed increases! when my fan speed increases i use "speedfan" to monitor my cpu and the temp doesnt not go down, my cpu stays hot, if i put my hand over the fan on the cpu it is sucking in, i want to know if i change the direction so it sucks in heat and blows out of case it will prevent overheating. ive tried running videosettings on low but still (nvidia geforce 7300 LE) (wich has a fan) i really need help, its doing this whether i open my pc case, if room is cold or hot, it always does it. i hate it when it lags, i was told to get a more powerfull fan.....HP will not put a **** fan on a home and entertainment pc.... anyways really need help everyone join in with comments!!!! Oh dear, has anyone got a 3rd grade physics education here? Fans are meant to blow air AT heatsinks, not away, letting you take advantage of convection to cool it. When you're hot, do you stand behind a fan? No.

lol yes i have a heat sink, the fan is suking air from the case onto the heat sink, i was told it my powerpack (230v) which is not strong enough to run the fans at high speed to cool processor, is that correct?

No thats not correct. You could try getting a decent Heatsink and fan if you are using a standard Intel one as they arent that great, or invest in a few case fans, one for the front of your case and one for the rear to improve airflow.

With the one in the front blowing in, and the one in the back blowing out.

how clean is your heatsink?? it may be packed up with dust restricting your air flow and cooling

I haven't the faintest as to how it's set up in a car, but I'd imagine it's a completely different situation to a PC, so it needs it that way.


Anyway, reapply some new thermal paste, and MAKE SURE YOUR CPU HEATSINK IS FULLY FITTED. If it's out by a millimetre, you can still fry it.

bingo! thats most likely the problem. pull the side off your computer, disconnect the power, and blow out the heatsink and fan (and the rest of the computer) with some compressed air.


also P4's generally run pretty hot, if the problem doesnt resolve, you may want to look at using an after market sink and fan. I use a XP-90 on my P4.
