You should buy the 1.8v single stick of ram(a 512mb will be fine) from ANY local computer store with a 100% return promise.
Don't order it from the same place you got the other stuff, drive around the corner instead, you're returning it the next day.

As long as the single piece is DDR2, and 1.8v(which all ram except pc6400+ is). You can probably find a 512 stick for less than $50...which again, is being returned the next day anyway, so use a credit card and you'll never even lose the money for a second :)

Everything I wrote only matters if you run into a problem...since someone mentioned it might be only some mobos with this problem(I don't think so). Then and only then will you need this single piece of 1.8v 512mb "boot ram".

I just checked the manual for your motherboard, and it specifically states that the model of Corsair memory you're getting is fully compatible with the motherboard.
Well you see, that is the problem...ALL of the mobo manuals say they are compatible, which is where the anger is arising from all the people experiencing this problem.

While that memory I'm sure IS qualified...you MAY need a slower stick just to boot the comp. If you read through my post, I think you would have caught onto that aspect.
The p965 defaults at 1.8v which is not enough juice to boot memory that requires 1.9 or greater just to start it. Do you see the problem now?

Also, I clearly said he should try the stuff he bought BEFORE buying anything else...what I posted serves to help him if the comp does in fact not boot up. This would be why. A slower 1.8v stick would allow the necessary changes(if needed)...to get it to run properly.

It says in the manual for his motherboard that the Corsair will work fine. If you want to look at it yourself, you can find the manual on Asus's downloads page for his motherboard.
      The Manual
      It's on page 2-15

Read my re-edit. It explains why the manual is useless in this regard.

aye, I think I was mostly replying to the "...since someone mentioned it might be only some mobos with this problem(I don't think so)" part But the OCZ and gskill memory modules that have been reported as not working are not listed in the manual. I have not seen a post yet (looking on the xtremesystems forums) saying that this particular Corsair module does not work.

Well hopefully it WILL boot, and all he needs to do then is set the voltage for stability.

That forum you mentioned when I searched for "1.8v" had a lot of talk about safe boots, but required raising afterwards.

He'll be OK now that he has the troubleshooting info in advance if it comes to it. I'n not trying to scare the guy, but hopefully to save him half a day of searching.

I just wanted to clear things up because the P5W DH Deluxe is a fabulous. This board has everything you can think of, and everyone says it's great for OC'ing if you are an OC'er or plan to OC in the future

Depends if you're ordering for another bios chip from asus or if you're going to use a lga 775 cpu laying around

Don't forget to not work on your computer while you're sitting on the carpet.

Wear an ESD strap or touch the metal on the computer with one part of your hand/arm at all times.

And, you may need to load SATA drivers for your pc to boot from the SATA drive...don't know if the mobo mfg's have fixed this issue or not.

                      Good luck.

Oh, and for Pete's sake, the processor is zero-insertion-force. NO PUSHING. Same can't be said for the memory, and PCI-E card--just don't get a hammer to beat them in.

Sweet :) You did use thermal paste on the heatsink, yes? Some people tend to forget that...

And as far as building on the carpet, well, I have done it and many other people too. Just have to make sure you touch the back of the computer every once in a while

When you open the new heatsink it has paste on it already .
