I am so happy to hear the ram worked!

Please tell us what settings your ram is at. If you don't already have this little program, you should get it now.

CPU-Z, version 1.35, scroll down to see it
CPU-Z is a freeware that gathers information on some of the main devices of your system : Processor name and number, codename, process, package, cache levels. Mainboard and chipset. Memory type, size, timings, and module specifications (SPD). Real time measurement of each core's internal frequency, memory frequency. The CPU-Z‘s detection engine is now available for customized use through the CPUID System Information Development Kit, a professional SDK built for the Microsoft Windows & Android.

It tells you the important things about your comp, such as CPU speed, multiplier, memory speed and timings etc. A must use program for any new build.

            Shouldnt the DDR2-6400 ram be @ 400Mhz?

Yes, which is precisely why I asked him to get that program. Part of what I was worried about has occured apparently...the ram is being run as DDR2 667(333mhz x2 = 666/7)

What he needs to do now is go into his BIOS and manually set the ram to the proper 400mhz.

This is where the vdimm voltage becomes important. It may not boot at the stock 1.8v when he changes the mhz to 400, so definately up your ram voltage to at least 1.9v, possibly upto 2.1v according to Corsairs forums(they allways say 2.1v is good).

If you cannot boot or post after these changes, clear your CMOS and start over. This is where your research is going to need to be done, proper memory timings to get your comp to boot at 400mhz ram.

The fact that you have it running now is good news, the rest is simply trial and error after your research.

So the ram is now running at its full 800? What voltage did you wind up with? Thanks for reporting back, I guess I can keep recomending Conroe afterall, even this early in its life.
