You may have a problem getting the comp to boot using that ram.

The p965 chipset only takes 1.8v ram...your ram is 1.9v or higher as is ALL pc6400 ram...why Intel neglected to notice this is beyond me.

Some people have reported using a crappy single stick of DDR2 just to boot, then changing the vdimm or CAS to allow the use of the pc6400.

If you do run into this problem...just go to your closest store to "borrow" some DDR2 for the evening and return it in the morning.

Oh poop , should i just try to boot it with 1 stick of ram them ?

Absolutely you should try first...but according to the info I have been reading lately, it probably won't boot at all unless you have a stick of 1.8v ram...which is pc5400 and lower.

Remember, if it doesn't boot, the crappy stick is only temporary and shouldn't matter since you will be returning it the next day.

Make sure to read each of the links the first guy posted as well...that is where I cam across the idea of using a 1.8v stick to boot, then changing the BIOS vdimm to 1.9v or higher to allow the use of the pc6400 you bought.
                    .
                    .
                    .
Also, here is the actual Intel spec sheet confirming what I said:
                    http://developer.intel.com/design/mo.../lt/lt_mem.htm
                    .
                    .
                    .
If nothing I mentioned works for you...then the final option to try is to just get 1.8v ram and be done with it. DDR2 667(pc5400) is 1.8v and works perfectly in the p965 chipset. You just need to pick a brand at this point.

Of course since it is on the way already, you will be trying the other methods first as I certainly would want the pc6400 running instead of the pc5400 if I just bought a new CPU.

And the million dollar question: "what kind of performance loss will you get using pc5400 instead of pc6400?"
Not much at all from what I have read...but that isn't the point. Intel says pc6400 works, I expect it to damnit! Maybe a BIOS upgrade in the future will fix it? But that doesn't help people who alraedy bought the lesser ram...they aren't going to throw it away.

Ooh dear look slike i may have a few probe then , well i asked for it and this is the kind of thing i am hoping to learn .

I think you for your very informative info and it will certainly be put to good use . Will the DDR2 667(pc5400) is 1.8v i use to start it have to be anything super expensive ?

I was under the impression that the 1.8v thing was only a problem with a couple Gigabyte boards... but anywho what memory exactly are you getting? Some PC6400 works just fine, some doesn't.

edit: Just saw that you are getting that Corsair. I would hold off on buying the extra 1.8v ram, as the Corsair should work just fine.

hehe, it wasn't me that said your memory wouldn't work :)

I just checked the manual for your motherboard, and it specifically states that the model of Corsair memory you're getting is fully compatible with the motherboard.

I'm still getting my p5w dh dlx....after very careful searching on over 10+ sites, I found out that if the bios chip on your p5w is not 0801 or 0901 then it doesn't support conroe, so in order to flash the bios you can simply drop in an older LGA 775 chip or you can simply call up asus and ask for the 0801 rev or 0901 rev bios chip and they'll send it for free, you don't have to pay a cent...

I just wanted to clear things up because the P5W DH Deluxe is a fabulous. This board has everything you can think of, and everyone says it's great for OC'ing if you are an OC'er or plan to OC in the future

                              asus FTW! :yay:

Great Choice, should overclock easily to 3.6-3.8, what cooling did you get?

If you plan on going air, get a Tuniq Tower 120 (preformance) Or Scythe Ninja (for quietness.)
