    *Cough* Conroe *Cough*

Yea, I have S939 too. Guess I won't be selling this PC then.

    Sentimental value. *Sniff*

Ah, nice to see you again Flanker (after my 5 month hiatus), anyways, i might just hope that newegg still stocks of decent s939 CPUs left (hopefully some dual cores and some optys ) then i don't have to waste off 100 bucks for a decent AM2 mobo.

I'm gonna see how cheap the high end S939 chips get to

I knew I waited to upgrade from my A643000+ for a reason.

The FX60 will still be bitchin' pricey though I'm sure.

You could always aim for a x2 4800+, it's almost as good. Just don't tell me how much you paid for it.

Why are you people aiming for second-rate processors? Explain to me your justification for AM2/939 over Conroe.

If people are still buying AM2 processors, there is nothing Intel can do for you guys. They've done everything they can; from having Conroe dominate the Athlon 64s in every single way, to having AMD's rumoured megatechnology (RHT).

What he said ^. The cheapest Conroe beats the X2 4800+.

Bandwagon? A dozen Conroes floating around the internet, Engineering Samples at that (ESes are weaker performers than their final bretheren). Benchmarks galore. And the release date a month from now. Hardly a bandwagon, my friend. Anyone who is anyone has really already accepted the Conroe, there are few of those left who would still decline to believe the performance of the Conroe.

You want to wait for the actual release? Go ahead. Its going to be the same thing as with AM2. People wanted to wait to see how the final processors performed, and they performed just like the benchmarks 6 months before release had predicted.

Please don't be someone who tries to wish the Conroe away. It's here, it's Intel, and it owns. There is absolutely no way that any K8-based processor is going to come close to the Conroe. Benchmarks have showed a 1.86Ghz Conroe being better than a X2 4800+, and a 2.13Ghz Conroe matching a FX-62 in performance. The processors are $183 and $224 (per 1000 units), respectively. No matter what kind of "up to 50%" price drops AMD makes on it's Dual Core processors, only the X2 3800+ would be cheaper than the Conroe. And the X2 3800+ is a sad performer when compared to the Core 2 Duo series.

Don't even bother to resist it. And don't try to write it off as a bandwagon. Its going to be here, and there really will not be any other sensible alternative.

there's nothing you see in that comparison that you wouldn't see anytime a company brings out a new design. it's not like it's doubled anything the AMD can do. now if it comes out and you can overclock it like crazy, then I'll be impressed.

I never said Conroe wouldn't be tons better than K8. I'm just saying not all of us are bandwagon jumpers.

                        Bandwagon

n 1: a popular trend that attracts growing support; "when they saw how things were going everybody jumped on the bandwagon" 2: a large ornate wagon for carrying a musical band; "the gaudy bandwagon led the circus parade"
It is a bandwagon. Conroe is the popular thing right now.

Just accept that people are still going to buy AMD processors, there's nothing you can do about it, so just get over it. People still bought Intel while AMD was outperfoming them, and the same will be true while Intel is on top.

wait til the reverse HT beats out the intel and they will all be jumping wagons. :p

RHT still hasn't been confirmed yet, adn noone really know what it will do. It has poentail, but that's about all it has right now.

Yea, just like when K8/S939 reigned, people still bought P4 CPUs even though they were building gaming PCs.
