Well it's time to say goodbye to our favorite socket.

UK DISTRIBUTORS informed us that they are buying the last stocks of AMD's 939 CPUs.

Our sources indicated that this should be the last of socket 939.

AMD wants to focus on socket AM2 and DDR 2 and wants to get rid of the 939 CPUs. This brought about some amazing price cuts and we learned that you can buy retail AMD Athlon 64 3700+ San Diego 90nm (Socket 939) for £93.94 Including VAT.

An Athlon 64 San Diego 90nm core at 4000+ costs £158.57 including VAT. I don’t think you can get those for much less than that and AMD wants to fight Intel even on the price front. It wants to be ready for some review losses when Conroe arrives.

You can buy those CPUs here but as the link says, this week only so hurry up. µ

They'll be lowering both AM2 and s939. It probably would have been a good idea to wait 4 months and get a $170 3800 X2 since this DC Opteron has been nearly useless.

It reminds me of the mobile Barton days. Things were so simple; you just followed the 2500+, NF7, 9800, BH-5 formula.

Hmmmm, you do know they will run out right? I have no idea how much stock there is but you should be careful that you dont wait too long :hmm: .

thats not good. If I see the stock running out on a few on newegg when the prices are still high I might either jump the gun and get one then, or not get one at all because I really need one, but not for 350$ lol.

maybe ill get a 4000+ or nothing, and just get that sexy viewsonic 19" LCD with 2ms response time, or the Lian Li v1100b Plus II case.

Alot of the AM2 processors are being discontinued also.



And I doubt the price will drop that much on the upper X2 CPUs to where they are "cheap". but then I've always heard that 3800 is very OC friendly. I just hate the 512 L2 cache.

All of the 1MB L2 cache AM2 dual cores are being dropped (4000, 4400, 4800, nice knowin ya). Anyways, damn, this is bad, i'm upgrading my PC in mid august, and i don't have a AM2 mobo, looks like i'll have to dish out like 100 bucks to get a AM2 mobo.

Lets just say i (and my family, especially my dad), doesn't believe in buying used products, even refurbs. A couple days before my dads birthday, i quickly went to ebay in search for a coffemaker, i bought a refurbed one for like 60 bucks less than new, when i gave it to him for his birthday, he really like it, when i told him it was refurbed his mood changed QUITE a bit. He didn't tell me to return it, but he wasn't too happy when he found out it was a refurb. Ever since i've never bought a refurbed/used product.

So buy the CPU at the sometime next month if you've got the $$. there's nothign wrong with the 939 and you might be able to pick them up slightly less than they are now. I wouldn't buy used computer equip either unless I knew who I was buying it from.

Yea, if i was to buy, i would require that i meet the seller in person, and test out the CPU (and the OCing abilities), and use Prime 95 and such.
