I had used a 20$ mouse for cs for years.. then asked for a MX 500 when they first came out for christmas.

Got one.. and it totally changed my game for the better. Optical mice are ALWAYS better then ball mice.

Wired are always better then WIRELESS.. because nothing sucks more then the batteries dieing mid fight.

Trust me... if you have a job.. do a little over time and get a logitech.

Go for MX500 or MX518. Its a WORLD of diffrence... trust me. Specially if your like me and dont want to blame your mouse as to why you missed your target etc etc.

If you want... go out and buy a cardboard "fiber" board. You can get them at any local hobbie shop that sells arts and crafts.

I bought a 2 foot square pad.. and after about a year.. flipped it over and now use its backside. Basically.. if gives you 2 feet of room to move your mouse around. Makes for PERFECT aiming. Total cost of board... like 5$ for 2.

As long as you have the room on your desk / table... get one. Nothing is worse then owning a 100$ mouse and trying to play on a piece of pad that is 8 inches by 12 inches.

Go for the BOARD and MOUSE !!!! Youll love it.

Same here, went from ball mouse, to Microsofts Optical mouse (night and day) when that first came out (for good old Quake 3 Arena), till it finally died, got the MX500 when it first came out and then got the MX518 for last christmas, oh happy day (more programable buttons of joy). I have almost all the weapons maped to the mouse and it speeds up your gameplay, and the DPI ajust is sweet for tanks and APCs to foot and sniping. I still use my MX500 on my laptop to go and play quake 2 and 3 at work.

I use the Logitech G5...loving the on-the-fly DPI adjustment. Click it up high when you're in a vehicle or AA/TOW emplacement to whip around quickly....drop it down low when you're sniping for fine control.

The MX510/518 are nice, too, but I like the slightly rough texture of the G5 better. The MX series are too slick for my taste. Also, the G5 has an adjustable weight cartridge, which is nice for fine-tuning.

Logitech G7 here. Along with my Logitech G15. Which goes along with my Logitech Extreme 3D Pro. Which goes along with my Logitech Wingman Action.

I would upgrade to a g5 but the prices here in holland are waay higher than they should be

vets.Sarge yea i did, great price and its a good mouse. One of the best bargins ive ever seen for a mouse. Had it for a while now and had no problems with it

Thanks for all the responses guys. After reading this thread I went out and got a mouse.

WHAT A DIFFERENCE. I had no idea. I decided to start out and try the Logitech g5.

My first map played with it I got a gold and shot 4 helo's out of the sky with a tank.

I just could keep the cursor smoothly over my target better than I ever could with my old mouse.

I'm really looking forward to some better fraggin now.

I got Logitech MX518.

Much improved over my old wireless optical made by?????????(dunno)
Best feature has to be changing the dpi on the fly.

The other day i was testing how fast i could move the turret in a tank. My mate was in a tank behind me and could see how fast my turret was moving and he was like ' you ******* i cant move mine that fast....ever!!' lol

So a gaming mouse can probably improve your playing skills. Coz if i turn dpi down to shoot at distance i seem to be getting more shots on targets and kills than before.

Is this cheating or just the proper equipment that everyone should have??!!??
I know 1 thing, i wont be going back to a normal mouse

Forget everything everyone else is saying.

The G5 or G7 are the best of the best.
2000 dpi and adjustable mouse sensitivity right on the mouse itself.
Plus, the weights are pretty cool. Don't worry, there is no jiggling of the cartridge or anything. You can't even tell they're there (noise-wise).

I own the G5 by the way.

I thought the G5 is nice BUT: my friends G5 mosue cable is broken now and he did nothin with it except transported it a few times!

Razer DiamondBack.....I think its just personal preference because Ive used it for so long but I went out and got the G5 Just because I felt like something new. At first I was like holy **** this thing is right on the money, but after using it for a week I realized that it did not have that certain "shape" that I enjoyed out of the razer product. I felt like I was making sort of a claw and the back end of the mouse was slipping off my palm and I like the mouse to stay attached to my hand at all times, it makes for quicker reflex and so forth. With the razer my thumb and pinky fingers grasped the sides of the mouse alot better and it hugged the contours of my hand much more nicely. Even with the weights out of the g5 it seemed a bit too heavy for me. I went back to my diamond back and it really made me notice how nice this product is. Razer FTW.


EDIT: The razer also has a pretty cool way of turning up the DPI on the fly.
