In case you haven't heard yet, Google's YouTube is apparently on the verge of acquiring Twitch for more than $1 billion (USD).

Cue the mass hysteria and panic!

And the list goes on and on. Now, either the gaming world is suddenly full of time travelers and psychics or they're being incredibly idiotic about the entire situation. These are just a few posts out of the hundreds where the paranoia is already running deep.

Hey, guess what? These two companies haven't even confirmed this news yet! And yet here you are complaining about how Twitch is now ruined because of this acquisition! You're complaining about some forced Google+ integration that doesn't even exist! You're complaining about this, that, and the other and... nothing has actually happened.

It's weird.

People say that Google+ ruined the comment system on YouTube.

Did it? I don't think it did.

If anything, it put more power in the hands of those creating content than ever before. They can more easily deal (ban/mute with ease) with those who still keep with the 10 year old mindset that trolling on the Internet is just the bee's knees.

People believe that the use of real names suddenly pushed forth an influx of people spamming more and causing disruptions on all of these videos. No, it didn't! All it did was give the people that were assholes to begin with a new wagon to band together on without merit or reason. I never saw a reason beyond "because" when pressed to explain why they were against the Google+ integration.

Solid explanation there.

If anything, it pushed to light the trolls that felt threatened that they may no longer be able to hide behind some veil of Internet anonymity when they make their snarky comments. So how do they combat something that's new that they clearly don't understand? They do the only thing they know how to do: They spam and troll.

Remember this guy?
☻/ This is bob. Copy and paste him so he can take over youtube.

Remember how much that changed things at YouTube? It was a revolution! YouTube clearly saw the error of their ways and reverted everything back to how it was! Well, no. None of that actually happened. At most, it resulted in a minor disruption for a few weeks last year. Much like a fart in the wind, Bob disappeared as quickly as he arrived.

Perhaps that's because the vocal minority crawled back into their holes once people stopped giving them attention. Since then the more level-headed realized that nothing essentially changed at YouTube. Perhaps they saw that the changes were actually beneficial as it created more easy to read comment layouts? I doubt that's the case as it's more than likely they simply grew tired and awaited the next bandwagon to focus their spam efforts on, whatever that was.

People bitch up and down about Google+ and I can almost guarantee that either A) Have not even tried to use it, or B) Are trying to use it like they would Facebook. Those in the A camp are simply the bandwagon jumpers. They don't have a single clue what the service is really like yet they feel like they'd be left out of what they perceive to be the "majority" if they don't agree.

Those in the B camp tend to say that "nobody they know uses Google+" and that "it's dead." Sure, if you use it just like you would Facebook then yes, you will obviously run into some issues there.

The difference is, Google+ is more about interests and communities than interacting with family or friends. Yes, you can do that but you are completely missing the point of the service. I've seen, read, and engaged in far more interesting and worthwhile conversations through Google+ than I ever have on Facebook. Why? Because I follow people and groups that interest me. I tailored the experience to my life and it's been fantastic with something new to read every time I go there.

But I'm not really here to try and sell you on Google+. I'm merely here to explain why the fears over this Twitch acquisition are pathetic.

You know what? I realized that I can't actually do that just yet. Why? Well, the acquisition hasn't actually been announced yet nor have any of these changes that people are so worried about. I would be no better than those worrying about all of these big changes happening when nothing has actually happened yet.

Hell, even many of those worries people have aren't even based on any precedent set at YouTube. Charging for HD streams when HD content still comes as free on YouTube? A price increase on premium services? Are you serious? There is literally no basis for those worries and yet there you are getting upset over it.

I admit that I'm even being a bit of a hypocrite here because I already voiced my concerns elsewhere about YouTube's "shoot first, ask questions never" policy on copyright claims. With an acquisition of a site and service that does nothing but stream copyrighted games and archives them for later viewing that could be the only major issue here. But again, nothing has actually changed yet, nor might it ever change.

So relax.

Stop flipping your shit over things you don't have a single clue about or things that may never even happen. You're making yourselves paranoid and you're getting angry over things that are only happening inside your own minds.
