  • Orcs Must Die! Video Review

    Robot Entertainment was kind enough to provide to us a review copy of Orcs Must Die!, a tower defense meets action meets strategy game. Priced at $14.99 (USD), the game packs one hell of a content punch. There is an incredible amount of single player content for the price, offering up hours of gameplay and fun for fans of tower defense titles and action titles.

    We took a slightly different approach with this review, going for a bit of a haphazard video review format instead of the typical text based one you're used to seeing from yours truly. It features gameplay recorded from my first time ever playing the game. Feel free to let us know if you enjoyed this format, let us know what can be fixed for future video updates, and whether or not you agree with the final score for the game or not.

    Also, if you happen to bring up the full Youtube page while watching, feel free to leave a thumbs up. It doesn't really do anything, but it is nice to see that the work is appreciated.

    [spoil=Final Review Score]Story - 7/10
    Easily the weakest component to the game. There is a story but the plot elements are just few and far between to really have much of an impact on a tower defense meets action title like this. However, the effort to try and include any type of story in this genre is quite appreciated.

    Gameplay - 9.5/10
    The gameplay may seem overly simplistic at first but then the difficulty starts to ramp up, strategy must be employed for trap placement, and resource management is a must. It's an incredible amount of fun, offers up hours of gameplay, with many more hours coming once you begin to try and beat your friends' top scores on a level, and could almost act as a stand alone action title for how good the combat is. I don't say this often, but Robot Entertainment could have charged twice as much for the game and it would still be worth it.

    Visuals - 8/10
    There isn't anything too spectacular about the game's visuals, but they are quite good for what they set out to accomplish. It's got a bit of a Torchlight vibe going on, a nice splash of colorful lighting in the levels mixed with some decent looking character models makes for a nice visual feast. The framerate is spectacular at 1080p resolution even with a ton of enemies on screen at once.

    Sound - 7.5/10
    One of the weaker elements of the game and it's not even that bad. The weapons sound a bit weak but this can be overlooked after a bit of gaming, however the traps are fantastic sounding and are all audibly unique. Witty one liners are said by solid voice acting from both the main character and the enemies. They aren't too repetitive and serve to inject an additional layer of humor into the game.

    Total Gaming Network Overall Score - 8.5/10
    A fantastic title for the price. Great for fans of either the tower defense or action genres.

      Pretty fun game. I downloaded the demo and its really well done. Its a little hard to aim at times, but thats no big deal. The one liners are funny.

      Good review.
