Perhaps you’ve seen the initial video BRINK, Splashdamage’s upcoming first person shooter published by Bethesda Softworks:

Pretty vague right? Well at E3 they pulled back the curtains (ever so slightly) on the title and TGN got to take a look at the early footage of BRINK which left me wanting more. I’m looking forward to seeing more information on this Spring 2010 PC/Xbox360/PS3 title as it becomes available as it’s truly unique among upcoming FPS titles.

BRINK takes place on a floating city called the Ark, an island created to be a utopian world and refuge for humanity when suddenly it loses contact with the rest of the world. Forces are sent into the Ark to investigate the circumstances that led to the break in contact, creating two combating factions, the Resistance and Security.

In BRINK, players can choose to play as a member of either faction. Prior to leaping into the fray players have the option of creating characters and developers took us through the creation process, showing us highly detailed and customizable models. With the sheer number of options, it’d be a rare occurrence to stumble across your twin. Once players create their character and load outs, they can play the game from three different modes; co-op, multiplayer or versus mode to uncover the story of the Ark.

Splashdamage showed us a level from BRINK on the dockyards, featuring storage containers for sentimental objects of inhabitants of the Ark, is provids tons of duck and cover opportunities between opposing players.

An element that the developers of BRINK touted is the improved kinesthetics of the title called S.M.A.R.T. In typical first person shooters, ledges and barriers can impede the player movement across a map, Splashdamage corrects this, allowing players to run at full speed and then overcome barriers uninterrupted.

Heading into battle, players select weapon load outs and combat classes. BRINK evolves combat class dynamics and allows players to change class in the heat of battle at various stations located throughout the map. Changing classes allows players to be more strategic in how they overcome obstacles and the enemy. The title also features dynamic missions based on class, obstacles, and team objectives. For example, if another player on your team is playing an engineer tasked with building a sentry to blow down a door, you may have the option to protect the engineer until he places the sentry. Players can prioritize the objectives they want to accomplish based on the amount of experience it will give you if you are successful.

In online play, a successful team requires teamwork and coordination, reminiscent of Killzone 2 for dynamic objectives and Team Fortress for unique class abilities and selecting a specific role will impact your team mates.

BRINK comes out in Spring 2010, follow TGN for upcoming information on the title.
