I understand how to take out arty as well as the rest of the commander assets and I'm very good at it. However, there are times when I just don't feel like being the guy to do all of the dirty work. It's fairly easy for two soldiers and a commander to defend their assets if they have half a clue. My complaint is directed at the lack of teamwork that is involved with arty. If they would just make it so that a squad leader has to request the arty and bump the recharge time to 3 minutes it would still be a useful tool that requires teamwork and I would stop thinking of it as a "noskillery strike". As it is, it's the only weapon in the game that can be used without ever being within visual range of your adversary. This would force squad leaders to locate snipers for the commander to drop the arty on them. As it is now, killing with arty involves no skill at all and yet that same bastard gets double the points for those kills when his team wins.

In other words, it ACTUALLY fires at 900 rpm but you only hear it firing at 600 rounds per minute. Firing off what you would HEAR to be a burst of 6 bullets will ACTUALLY fire 9. I find this to be quite annoying, as the sound and appearance of the gun has a huge psychological impact on whether or not you can actually kill someone with it (for me at least).

Anybody else getting a message that says" This server only allows players with unmodified content"? I loaded 1.22 patch this morning and then this started. I tried reverting back to 1.21 and that didn't help either.
The only modding I've done was renaming the BF2.exe and changing that back didn't make a difference.

Re: Battlefield 2 Patch 1.22 Released

I play Support off and on, and I think the big problem is the 24/7 Karkand people....there are other maps. Support and Engie are the most unloved classes IMO.

I know the "get in a tank if you're a Engie" or "Support your squad if you're Support"

In an ideal game, yea that's true. But what happens when there's no teamwork and you spawn as an Engie or Support right before the noob drove off with the last vehicle despite your shouts "requesting pick up" so you have to either suicide or go for a long jog?

I'm a First Sarge and never had a problem with the PKM killing me. C4 chucking and noob tubing yea a bit.

Since EA is listening to anyone that complains. Hey arty is a pain, nerf it. Oh crap, explosives are one hit kills, I can't do anything about it. WTF?! Knife is also, it should only be 1 pt of damage from a cut! Tanks wipe the floor with me, medics should be able to kill a tank! It's a game not real life!

However I seriously actually agree that it wouldn't be bad for SLs to have to request arty instead of the commander dropping it on spawn points. Might encourage *gasp* teamwork on the battlefield....

I think the ranking was a bad idea, it's made everyone too competitive. No other games change their weapons this much...then again EA should have had it balanced to start with...just my two cents.

I'm with you on this!! arty needs atleast 3 mins & should require teamwork!
It's a simple idea but would work a treat!
                    Good thinking my friend.

this is a step back in te game, the support was almost imposible to use, then it was set to be competitive, and now is worst than ever,
people running around with PKM's not that different from people running around with nadelaunchers, with PKM you still got a chance

I have not noticed any problems with the new patch...and I can still mox down squads with the PKM. I was on Sharqi last night defending the flag on the hill by the consruction site and I was picking off guys a hundred yards away with the PKM. So it is still a great weapon as long as you are easy on the trigger.

Kind of funny how SpecOps or Medics haven't been nerfed really. Wonder if it's because so many people play those two classes. SpecsOps have a long spring, can take out armor possibly better than actual AT class, very accurate rifle. Medics can heal themselves.....I would laugh so hard if they made it so medics can't pick up their own medkits.

Going to try the patch out this today or tomorrow...been busy.

Havn't found time to play 1.22 yet but since 1.20 the Support class was the better Assault kit. Why?
                              Speed/Stamina is the same.
Firepower is a definitive advantage for the Support. Plus the ability to get more ammo incl. hand grenades (Which often leads now to grenade spamming but that's a different story).
True, the Assault has the smoke grenade/flashbang. Then again I cannot recall a single smoke grenade being thrown during the last 50 hours game time. Yes, flashbangs are used more often but in SF the Support got the teargas and that's used even more often.

So hopefully the recent modifications restore some sense to the assault kit.

Well, still it seems most Commanders do not understand the basics of placing artillery. Especially the delay between clicking and the barrage. MOst of the time artillery is only a minor nuissance (unless your team has only a single spawn point left which then suffers double for being pounded by artillery and every tank, plane, helo on the map). Usually you will die way more often spawning in front of enemy guns, tank treads or claymores thanks to Dice's stupid spawning routine than from well placed artillery (unless you always spawn way behind the front whoring for vehicles).

Not quite. As you say so yourself... this takes a good commander and those do not come often. Plus as soon as the first asset blows up, the enemy knows taht you are around. ANd then they have the UAV to spot you.

I can only repeat that this is only what you think that kills you most. Maybe you have not seen a good commander in the field but systematically taking out the enemy because you know where they are gets your team more kills than artillery unless your opposition is stupid enough to set up their tents for good.

Well, it actually is not so easy to pick up your own med packs. Dropping them while moving usually fails to heal you. It really is faster to heal yourself by holding it instead of turning around to collect a dropped pack.

I bet they'll have to release another patch to patch this patch, which patches another patch that patched the patch before it.
