Yeah what's up with the sci-fi crap? All Battlefields players i know are wargamers, not trekkies.
Take a look at all the sci-fi mods for BF42/BFV/BF2...not one of them has become remotely succesfull, with the possible exception of Galactic Conquest. Most of them were shut down due to lack of interest.

Now give me a game based on The Cold War...preferably during the 80's, most of the military hardware used then is still in use today. The setting could be: What IF WW3 had broken out, and there was a huge conventional war between USSR and USA/Europe. Big tank battles in M60/M1's and T72/T80's, fighting for air superiority in Mig25/Mig29's and F16/A10's, huge bombers like the B52 and TU-160.
Ok, most of that was done in Operation Flashpoint, but I'd like to play that setting using a newer game engine.

Wait...Armed Assault is coming out soon. If that game is anything like it looks to be, EA can do whatever they want, i won't buy any more of their crap.

We heard you the first time you posted this same concept. I'd like to point out that there are plenty of BF series fans who loved BFV. Me included. So calling it another BFV isn't saying much. It looks interesting. It's a different experience. I've paid the same money for lesser games in the past. If it's fun to play, I'll get it. Same as anything else. How many other games are based off of the same engine as a predecessor? I think the engine is great for large scale combat. So bring on a new version. I'll split my time between both...

Well if what i saw is genuine then i'll just stick to the current BF2 series.

Not my cup of Tea at all, and doesn't even look that good.

Man, you think it seems like people cry a lot now about "Plane Whores" and snipers?

Wait until we hear about all the "Mech Whores" and everyone who hates sniper's worst ****ing nightmare, Invisible snipers.

The majority of the current BF community will not like this game because there are going to be way too many highpowered weapons, and their heads will explode if they try to play it. I can understand this though, since most of us started with BF1942 and liked the idea and "fairness" of older, more simple weapons.

None of this matters though, because the people that "leave the franchise" will just be replaced by a new type of community that loves this type of game, but that isn't into old school FPS.

Now yer talking!!!! (Although AA is looking depressingly quiet...)

I think <= WWI has a lot to offer, basic, slowed down combat.

Its time for tactical nukes. If you control the greater amounts of all flags, (more then half) for a certain time, your team's commander is rewarded with a tactical nuke.
                  LOL. :)
BUt seriously, anyone ever see the scud go off in Desert Combat. Very, cool looking, very cool sounding.

Looks more like another exp pack...

And EA have made it look so origional its not stealing ideas from other games at all!

Doubt autumn 06, add a year.

Not sure what to say, I think it's kind of cool but why compete with QuakeWars?

I'd prefer maybe near future (Ghost Recon 3)? Or like others have said, Cold War etc. I think that'll give EA a better chance to stand out. How many scifi games are coming out? Why compete with them...

Maybe a Desert Storm or something from EA. Kosovo?

I think a modern warfare with more mixed elements. I'm thinking something amphibious or guerilla style would be original.

Re: Newly Released Battlefield 2142 Video

This is the reason why EA/DICE blacklisted the MTS - Mech Tactical Simulation mod for BF2, and forced us to quit, they planned to do their own, and BF2' corpse is not even dry.

Judging from the video (and this of course is open to misinterpretation due to quality): same engine "Refractor 2" with tweaks, some nice shader effects not in BF2, low polycounts by next-gen standards, not so nice graphics really, when you've got coming up stuff like ETQW and Unreal 3.0, same anims as BF2, since it's DICE you can bet ur ass it'll be buggy, since it's EA u can bet ur ass they'll crap all over the mod community, and since it's BF, the game is probably fun, arcadey, buggy (did i mention buggy yet?) and ultimately disappointing. And buggy.

Really, between FEAR recently, and ETQW, FarCry 2, Unreal 3.0, Prey, etc coming up, BF2142 is looking quite dated already. Everything looks boxy and bland, normal maps (as per DICE standard) are really subdued, the lighting pales in comparision to the other next-gen engines... and i won't touch EA or DICE with a 10-foot pole. Never again. And it'll be buggy.

                            Did i mention buggy yet?

rofl the word console is the first indication of something being totally rubbish lol...

but i just had a though...

jihad mechs... how rubbish would they be lol... i wouldnt mind if ET:QW was only 24 players lol i play that much on css...

the fact is the video isnt very appealing nor is the game idea, you can tell my the quickness of all this and the lack of a new engine at what EA and Dice are trying to do...

The thing is no one will release mods for BF2142 (Horrible name to type) because its the exact same engine as BF2 except with a smaller audience and more expensive to buy.

Atl least we can all hope they will redeem the BF series after this by going back to WW2 with a new engine and 64+ player support - and less crappy expansion packs.
