Rumorville: Battlefield 2142 in the works...

Have the recent videos showing a futuristic looking game from DICE been showing this new battlefield game all along? Seems very plausible!
Shacknews: What can we expect for the future of the Battlefield franchise?
Dan Blackstone: We’re about to announce something very big, so stay tuned. One other interviewer asked this and I gave him a hint, so it’s only fair that I do the same for you: 3213/3X2. Or said another way: S.R. 4588164.
If we were to venture a guess, S.R. stands for Square Root. The square root of 4588164 is 2142.

Are they tugging our chain? Only time will tell.

EDIT: When we did a WHOIS query on www.battlefield2142.com we noticed it is being held by groth.se, a registrar located in Stockholm, Sweden -- which coincidently located in the same city where DICE's headquarters are.

The WHOIS information for battlefield1942.com is quite similar, though is registered directly to DICE. Click here to see that.

      BTW, 3213/3X2 is also 2142.

They should really shouldn't be announcing plans to develop a new battlefield game when BF2 has been out for less than a year...

I really do not want to see a futuristic battlefield game. If this rumor is true, you won't see me buying, especially after all the bugs that have been in BF2.

Don't you think they may have learned from their mistakes and may possibly make this new game, Battlefield 2142, much better?

I just hope it's not a console exclusive. Even if it is just being announced I wouldn't expect to see it for a couple of years, unless they just reuse the BF2 engine and do a quick release, I'd be cool with that.

I don't have any hope for Quake Wars, aside from the dev team it doesn't have much going for it, extreme minimum system requirements doesn't help either. UT2007 looks a little more promising but both will require a hardware overhaul to run decent.

                  We'll see.

They'll most likely use the current engine and enhance it just as they did with Battlefield Vietnam.

Re: Rumorville: Battlefield 2142 in the works...

Personally, I'm hoping for more engine features and some more toys for the modders to play with. BF1942 & BFV were taken over by mods. FH2 and POE2 are going to be massive imho.

Mods have the luxury of testing the waters and pushing the limits to provide gameplay for a specific type of person ... which is why we all love them. Sometimes a takes a "run 'n' gunner" 10 minutes of playing Forgotten Hope for 1942 or Project Reality for BF2 to realise how cool that type of gameplay is .. and boom .. he's converted :)

Good point GameWizard -- it's highly unlikely that they're going to revamp the engine from the ground up like they did with BF2... too soon for that.

Many people didn't see it, but BFV enhanced the engine in many ways and, in many aspects, improved gameplay. I can't wait to see what they can do with the BF2 engine. There have been countless engines that were re-used for many, many, many games such as Quake and UT .. no reason why BF2 can't be different.

I love dice games and i think they are the best game company ever, and I know people will quote me on this but im just giving the facts:

i think that this will prove to be interesting. I just hope they don't mess up on this one. They should talk to the community and figure out what they want in this game. They shouldnt promise content and maps that they wont deliver. if they do make a new battlefield then either half the community wont buy it, others will try to give dice another chance to prove themselves worthy. I always buy new dice games cept bfvietnam cause there are mods for bf1942 that are better for vietnam than that. I also think that they should stick with the bf2 community instead of giving us 4 or something patches and then 1 expansion and 2 boosters to squeeze our money away. I do love dice and all but they aren't like other games that give extra content for free. They say they will offer us a great game with bf2 with 128 player servers and maps that are huge. In the producer videos they sent out a few months before bf2 was released said that they would have supply trail type maps. They said they would give us the aps underwater gun for sf and also a spear gun( i dont know what for?) BFV was just a big mod. The expansions all of the games will total $100. if you have been loyal dice fans you will have payed $50 for bf1942 $60 for bf42 expansions $50 for vietnam $50 bf2 $30 for sf and That adds up to $240 for all of their games. Now they want us to pay the $20 for the boosters which should have been released with the original game. They always promise too much and then give less than what they had promised.

I LOVE BF SERIES but i hope they make this one the best one yet. Dont promise release dates, release when the game is ready. The community will wait longer if it will give us a polished game. I think bf2 is a polished game, but if you hadnt promised us so much other content then i would be completely satisfied with it. Though i think it is the best game i own and i really enjoy playing it

ok anyways tell me if you think im wrong

Well for a start if you think for one second we would have gotten any of the features of the bonus packs for free then lol.... theres no hope for you.

Dice decided to cut an expac in half, they give us a new map (wake 2007) they give us 2 new guns, they add radical changes requested by the community (no more bunnyhopping or noobtubing)...... They add a UAV for the love of god.

and people still sit and claim we are being forced to pay for new material.

heres and idea... if you dont want to pay money... then dont.... nobody is forcing you at gun point to march to the stores and hand over cash.

So what you're saying is that we who plunked down our fifty bucks for this game, we're basically paying them to be nothing more than Beta testers?

When the letdown is so recent and everyone is bemoaning potential unfulfilled, they toss out a little red herring to distract everyone, and get them revved up about 'BF2142'.

I'd like developers to release a game that works as advertised and not have to release a slew of patches to fix the code they slapped the "gold" label on and pumped out the door.

I hope they have learned something, because if they are sticking the BF franchise in the future just to 'keep up with the neighbors' (ET:QW) they have already lost.

You may now commence with the tarring and feathering.
