This is like being stabbed in the back by DICE. I'm gaining the impression that as they are allegedly developing a new game for the Battlefield franchise, they are ditching support for BF2.

      @ above, i definately agree.

as long as they can make profit, support is but on the background.

I agree, when I first saw this I thought it was a new Future Cop. I really doubt this is the next BF game. Look into the game Future Cop L.A.P.D. , I think it's much more likely that vid posts was for a new Future Cop or possibly even an old vid for the first one. Fun game but pretty buggy as I remember.

As for a futuristic BF, I really see it as a response to ET:QW. It's horrible when they do that with movies Deep Blue Sea and Deep Rising come to mind, both horrible but first things that come to mind. I know there are more examples just not thinking of.

To EA/Dice's defense, almost all of the wars have been used up. COD2 has WWII. UT and ETQW has futuristic. I don't think WWI would be terribly fun. Ghost Recon 3 has near future warfare so either way EA/Dice would be competing for a style/era.

Granted it could offer different gameplay I'd rather see EA/Dice get a bit more creative. Haven't tried out any mods for BF2 yet but I would mind seeing maybe something like Battlefield: War in the skies. A game with more focus on air combat instead of the waiting in line only to get tked flying now.

Very sneaky - and very cool.

Although i'm not a fan of futuristic combat, if they pull it off well (like Halo 2) I'll be a fan.

How will we refer to BF 1942 now? We can't call it BF42...

Shacknews: What can we expect for the future of the Battlefield franchise?
Dan Blackstone: We’re about to announce something very big, so stay tuned. One other interviewer asked this and I gave him a hint, so it’s only fair that I do the same for you: 3213/3X2. Or said another way: S.R. 4588164.
If we were to venture a guess, S.R. stands for Square Root. The square root of 4588164 is 2142.

Are they tugging our chain? Only time will tell.

EDIT: When we did a WHOIS query on www.battlefield2142.com we noticed it is being held by groth.se, a registrar located in Stockholm, Sweden -- which coincidently located in the same city where DICE's headquarters are.

The WHOIS information for battlefield1942.com is quite similar, though is registered directly to DICE. Click here to see that.

I'd prob only get it if a good mod came out, like DC for bf42.

I'd love to see a futuristic battlefield game almost as much as I'd like to see a return to World War II. If they do a futuristic one, I really want them to add capital ships back in. This would make the game sooooo much better!!!

Obviously you haven't played W40k then.
When I say futuristic, i mean really bad, laser type combat. Halo 2 was excellent because it pulled it off so well, realistic designs etc. 40k is different - its gritty, tough, and downright nasty. Its so futuristic (38000 years into the future) its a completely different universe.

The real reason why EA/DICE blacklisted the MTS - Mech Tactical Simulation mod for BF2 stands revealed...

Anyway, ETQW has the potencial to be much better. For starters, it has a much better engine, and lacks DICE's bug-infested programming abilities.

Bf2142, MMOFPS similar to Planetside, scheduled for 2008 and expected to cost 5$ per month.

By your logic, we were all beta testers for Windows XP when we were using Windows 98. Many of the features that XP brings could have easily been possible in Windows 98.

Anyone who has ever worked on large software development projects will understand that working on a concept that has never been visualized before is not as easy as the user thinks.

Sepp, as a user, you need to understand that nothing is perfect and flaws will always exist in software -- be it a game or an operating system. If you start demonizing the software developers I can garauntee that you will never be happy with any product that you ever purchase ... or maybe that is the way you like it?

Name a game that you think is the best developed and I will list plenty of bugs and discrepencies that you probably never knew existed.

BF2 isn't as bad as many of you make it to be ... you just love it so much that you want it to be perfect :)
Well said and I think that you understand the psychology going on here.
