Battlefield 2142 Coming August 28th for Mac

I already play on a Mac Pro...

... so absolutely no reason to purchase 2142 again. I just boot into windows with bootcamp and load the game. I've played this way since last September with no problems whatsoever. I have the stock el' cheapo video card and run it on about med settings. Good enough for me, I have a high rank and enjoy the gameplay every bit as much when I ran it on my old AMD system.
I used PCs forever & thought I'd never purchase a Mac, boy was I wrong. I'm totally satisfied with my purchase. And guess what?, when I'm ready to sell my computer I'll most likely have a higher resale value than any PC I ever owned. Most of my PCs I had and tried to sell when I was done were sold for so cheap I was almost crying.

The resale factor of Macs are solid, although I do suspect it's much less with the Mac Pros than I've seen with the iMacs (which have unparalleled resale value as far as computers go I reckon).

Still, for someone who plays games primarily I don't see the worth. When I'm at home, I pretty much just sit in my web browser, IRC, and in games; it's very rarely I use much of the OS itself.

I wouldn't mind one at work, though. :) Or if I were a freelance designer at home, it'd be nice. I suspect a lot of gamers don't really care too much for the Mac experience though, and would just get irritated with the whole dual boot issue.

I advocate Macs in a bunch of scenarios, but an audience who're primarily gamers is not one I'd waste my time preaching to -- talk about an uphill fight.

Not every way, but most. I own two macs, and they've given me more hardware problems than my 20 pc's(business related). I've had HDD issues, power cord issues, battery issues; practically everything but the CPU. Granted, they have some fine software, but...I like my hardware working.

This thread was worth it just for the guy claiming that running Windows on a Mac is "agenst the hardware code". I want to live in a world where that means something.

But in the name of efficiency, I think we should also discuss whether PCs are better than consoles, or vice versa. Seems like combining these discussions into one thread is the way to go, and I'm sure one side will eventually be swayed by the other's reasoned discourse.

Erm....what? You do live on this planet, yes? Not utopia, or wonderland, where all is happy and all are reasonable?

Anyways, to get on with your idea, consoles are great for one reason; simplicity. For those who know how to set one up, an HTPC is better. Most people however, will naturally go for a console. I just wish that they'd make console games for PC's, complete with split screens and all that stuff, but nooooo........ Darned exclusive agreements.....

Never seen any. I do have anti-virus for when I'm running windows, though.

Anyway, so 2142 would run better on mac? I think I have more of my hard drive partitioned to it.......

It does exist, but for the purpose of catching windows viruses that pass through mac systems.

Got my copy of BF2142 for Mac on Friday, thanks Apple Store online!! Shipping version is 1.25. So don't hold your breath for the patch on Tuesday.

In my brief testing I won't be wiping my boot camp partition just yet. The game is smoother in Windows, but I am on a Macbook Pro laptop not a desktop. I also find myself missing Teamspeak Overlay, but Teamspeex provides the basics.

Hm....hadn't thought of that, mac has next to nothing in the way of xfire-vent sorta program.

I heard they had that teamspeex thing, but it kinda sucks in my experience.

Weird, considering macs have built-in mics.
