While I'm not taking sides here (I support use of both Windows-based PCs and Macs in different circumstances), I think the point about graphics capabilities on Macs above does hold some credence.

The latest iMacs still only come with a mid-end ATI card, albeit from the latest generation. It falls very much short of the higher-end cards in both the ATI and NVIDIA ranges, and once the new GeForce 9s come out later this year that will change to 'extremely short'.

The Mac Pros are powerful machines, but they have 'Pro' in the name for a reason: they're designed and marketed for professionals, and priced as such. Very few home users will buy a Mac Pro for anything but commercial work as for the same price you could get hugely better hardware on a PC. There are always those who can and will, but they'll always be the exception.

When it comes to home users, iMacs and Mac Minis are essentially Apple's only offerings. And in both, the graphics card falls way short of what it could potentially be; if Apple simply offered a higher configuration with a top-end graphics card, the problem would be immediately solved. Yet for some reason, latest iMacs included, they don't.

In my opinion, Apple are very, far far from establishing the Mac as a good games platform. And this saddens me, because the machines are indeed very good quality and routinely deliver with every single other hardware components (amongst the first to market with glossy and LED-based screens, 1TB hard-drives, etc).

Worked for halo, I don't see why macs couldn't be on the same server.

Because Dice or EA could of probably make it so it kicks mac users for modified content? you never know with Dice. I bet some problems arise

Hmmm maybe they should have a little apple in front of their names, like the bf2 vets have the "2", so we know who they are, and can "welcome" them properly, lol.

So Mac users are finally getting some decent games...

Anyone know how well an average Mac will run 2142?

Depends on how well the port the game, of course. Usually ports will perform worse on similar hardware, though.

It does have the potential to run a bit worse as they're having to move it from DirectX to OpenGL, which isn't the most trivial of things in the world.

As for how well it'll run... the latest iMacs will probably run it averagely. It won't be constantly pushing 100fps when maxed out like my equivalently priced PC, but it should offer a pretty smooth game (Except during artillery!). I wouldn't ever buy a Mac if gaming were my primary use for the machine, but if you'd be using the OS itself just as much as you'd play games on it then it'd be a fair experience.

Haven't we already had this flame war last time this news article came? Oh well, to get on the bandwagon. I think PC's are better, if only because Bill Gates really knows how to get partnerships.
