Great news. Though my personal mac would hardly be able to handle it, it'll be nice to have that available when I upgrade to a mac pro.

Actually, considering the mac is a fixed platform, it should run significantly more stable on a mac because there would be little hardware variation.

Will the Mac users be able to join the PC users on all the existing servers? Or will all the Mac users only be able to use multiplayer with each other?

I use an intel imac, with windows and mac OSX. Do you think 2142 would run better with mac? (Since I, of course, play it with windows)

Um.......... First off it's agenst the hardware code too run Windows on an mac. You would of had to hack your macs Software code before you instaled windows. BTW Macs are pritty low tech when it comes to graphics IE they are more for work tools than anything else. Not only that Macs only make up 2% of the software market. BTW a Mac pro will not play BF2142 that well at all. Why? because it only has 1 gig of memory and only the equal of a Gforce5700GT on it. So you would never be able to run it of full with everything turned on, even if it was dule core.

Your best bet is to buy a PC and play it on that. IE as long as you don't muck around with the game code like most people who have crashes/problems on PCs do. Or turn of your anit-spy/virus software when you play your fine.

IE thats the biggest mistake people tell others to do is to turn off their firewalls/anti-spy/virus software. You should never turn those off even to play a game! EVER! The only time you should turn those off is if your updateing your Sound card/Video card drivers. Or if you own a Mac updateing your Mac. Never turn it off to play a game! You open your self up to all kinds of server side functions that try to add stuff to your PC that normaly should not be there. IE was a huge issue in WolfET/Wolfenstien...............

^ For your information even the new iMacs are equipped with ATi 2xxx cards. Would run Battlefield 2142 on full easily.

Stop bashing Mac, guys. I use a Windows PC too but Macs are awesome quality.

                        For the Mac Pro:
The most powerful Mac laptops and desktops ever. Supercharged by Apple silicon. MacBook Neo, MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, iMac, Mac mini, and Mac Studio.

Either the 7300GT, x1900xt, or Quadro FX4500, Crossfire or SLI are options I believe. You could probably just opt for the 7300GT and upgrade the graphics all you like, there's nothing stopping you from opening that case up and popping in two 8800 Ultras.

The CPU? How 'bout going all out and choosing dual quad core Xeons? Yep, eight cores total.

The memory can easily be upgraded UP TO 16GB.

No, installing Windows on a Mac is not against any "hardware codes" you can easily do it with Bootcamp.

A fully equipped Mac Pro (which can go over 10,000 USD) is COMPLETE overkill for 2142, or ANYTHING for that matter. The game won't know what to do with all that extra power.

I can run on full at 1280*960 for less than 1 grand on windows

As someone already said, that is flat out wrong. Are you not aware of bootcamp? Thats a native feature of Leopard.

Macs are not "low tech" on graphics. Specifically the mac pro. The mac pro is DESIGNED for high intensity workloads, namely graphic/video and audio rendering. They dominate that particular market and have for the last seven years. The stock video card on a mac pro is a NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT graphics with 256MB memory, which would be able to run bf2142 with no problems whatsoever.

Mac pros do not have "1gig of memory". They are capable of running 16gb dual channel total.

Finally, ...I'm a bit shocked you actually said, on a gaming forum, that people should run a/v software all of the time. Thats simply blasphemy. Antivirus software eats tons of resources which would take a huge toll on your gaming performance if you tried to run it while you game. If one isn't a complete idiot, there is no problem not running antivirus software on a windows based pc. This however is not neccessary at all on a mac.

Yeah, does anti-virus for mac even exist?

Never seen any. I do have anti-virus for when I'm running windows, though.

Anyway, so 2142 would run better on mac? I think I have more of my hard drive partitioned to it.......
