Microsoft's E3 2011 Conference in Review - Modern Warfare 3, Kinect, Kinect, Halo

It seems as though the major focus of Microsoft's E3 2011 press event was Kinect. Most of what they showed today featured Kinect support optional or as full games that require Kinect to play.

    - Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 started off the show today with a brief demo. It looked like typical Call of Duty including canned death animations, on rails vehicle segments and the like. The DLC for MW3 will be exclusive to the 360 for a period after its release, just as it's been for the past three CoD titles.

    - Kinect was on full display today with Kinect Sports Season 2, Kinect support in Mass Effect 3, Kinect Star Wars and others.

    - Fable: The Journey is a first person Kinect title. It looks to be on rails and allows you to swing your sword and cast magic through the use of your hands movements.

    - Halo Combat Evolved Anniversary and Halo 4 were both proudly shown off tonight. Halo CE Anniversary is the original Halo title remastered on a modern Halo engine featuring a remastered SP and MP campaign, coop, and more. Halo 4 was teased with Master Chief coming out of stasis and was promised for a Holiday 2012 release. Halo 4 is also the start of a new trilogy in the Halo franchise.

    - All Tom Clancy titles beginning with the upcoming Ghost Recon title will make use of Kinect functionality in some form.

    - Gears of War 3 was shown off with a live demo from Cliffy B and Ice-T on stage. It looked visually impressive

    - Minecraft is slated to come to the Xbox 360 later this year.

    - Youtube is coming to Xbox soon.

    - Much larger focus on the Xbox being an entertainment platform, not just a gaming console.[/I][/B]

Overall? A rather disappointing from Microsoft this year, especially with the focus being on Kinect titles. Many of their "live demos" seemed to be really canned and rehearsed to high hell and back, especially the Kinect Sports Season 2 demos, and a few other titles with a focus on Kinect functionality.

If you ripped out all of the Kinect titles, you'd have been left with just a very few titles that would appeal to the core 360 gamer out there.
