PlayStation Network Future Uncertain, May Return by End of the Month

While the return of the PlayStation Network was supposed to take place last week, that date has been pushed back to an uncertain date in the future.

As of right now, the plan from Sony is to restore the PSN service fully by May 31st. Yep, your online gaming might be gone for almost an entire extra month.

The company is in the process of adopting an improved security system and its plan to restart the services fully by May 31 is unchanged, he said. Sony shut down the PlayStation Network and Qriocity services April 20 because of possible data theft by hackers.

Given how much this has been pushed back already, even that date may be in jeopardy. Sony does have plans to provide some freebies and games to compensate upset PlayStation 3 gamers. Full details on that are forthcoming.

This has to be by far one of the worst company management handling I've seen in a good long while. Now I understand there is data loss and all that; but the way Sony is handling this and has always handled issues of these nature is pretty piss poor. Sometimes it is better for a company not to give a date if they can not commit to it, because you build so much hype and then you rip it out from people you are going to start losing people and their trust. Honestly, I've seen Sony down this road many of times in the past, and I really don't trust them as a company nor have I ever, again I'm extremely bias against Sony for personal employment reasons in my past history, but that all put aside, their company model for handling this is pretty piss poor.

Again I'll make a formal opinion when everything is said and done. Giving away free stuff only helps a bit, esp. those who have had their information stolen and the process that they have to deal with now and the rest of their life if that information is used in ways that we can only not hope it would be used. Again the up side to this is that it forces the company to reconsider its methods of delivery, handling of personal/sensitive information and much more from a company stand point. Again I really would have though that Sony would have been a bit more up and ready for something like this to come down someday like most companies are.

Again, when PSN is back up, I'll believe it when I see it, I highly doubt Sony is going to make the date they promise because this is not some small issue that can be easily fixed and done.

man this makes me really glad I didn't trade in my 360. I think Sony is going to have to do a lot more than give a free month of PS+ and some random games to make their customers happy.
