R.I.P. Guitar Hero (2005-2011) and True Crime; Layoffs at Activision

Activision has killed off future plans for more Guitar Hero titles due to abysmal sales of Warriors of Rock and the current lack of "mass appeal" for music titles in general.

Back in December, plans were still full steam ahead for future Guitar Hero titles, as noted by Activision Publishing CEO, Eric Hirshberg.

"I think that we would be foolish to not try and build on the strength of the Guitar Hero brand, because as you said, it's a pretty strong brand with great recognition and great likability, and there's a lot to work with there."

Freestyle Games was also hit by layoffs today at the hand of Activision. Freestyle Games is the studio behind DJ Hero. And there are unconfirmed reports that Vicarious Visions, another Activision owned developer, were also hit with layoffs today.

The open world title, True Crime: Hong Kong, has also been canned by Activision. It was in development and slated for release later this year.

I lost my faith in Activision long ago with the fact of MW2, they're going to learn that CoD will only last so long and then everyone will get tired of that like the Guitar Hero titles and other stuff.

Activision is just bending themselves over for a world of ass ramming later in the years, I know its going to happen somehow, and I'm going to be there to point and laugh at them when it does. Extremely disappointed in them, I hope that True Crime: Hong Kong dev. team finds a new publisher one that isn't going to tell them what to do.
