PSP2 Named "NGP" - Just the Facts Ma'am

With Sony's live event coming to a close, the details on the Next Generation Portable (NGP) have been hitting the Net in full force. No longer called the "PSP2", at least for now, the NGP will arrive this Holiday season and here is what we know at present.

    • 5-inch OLED multi-touch screen
    • Quad-core Cortex-A9 processor
    • 960x544 resolution screen (4x that of the PSP)
    • Uses "new media" for games and storage, UMD's are no more
    • 3G, Wifi, GPS capabilities
    • Six-axis for motion controls
    • Front and rear facing cameras
    • Front and rear touch pads
    • Dual-analog sticks
      Full technical specs here

      Games
    • Metal Gear Solid 4 cutscene rendered and shown in real time (taken directly from the PS3 version, running on NGP hardware at 20FPS)
    • Call of Duty announced
    • Unreal Engine 3 demoed running on the hardware
    • Other titles shown include Resistance, Little Big Planet, Killzone, and Uncharted
    • Uncharted can use traditional controls OR the touch screen to move your character and jump over obstacles.
    • "Little Deviants" was shown that makes use of the front and rear touch panels. Rear panel utilizes your fingers to raise the ground under the deviant to move them. Use both to "pinch" the deviant to fling them somewhere.

      New UI called "LiveArea"
    • LiveArea allows for social networking
    • Easily jump between a game and LiveArea without losing any progress in the game
    • Network connectivity will be able to track your walking locations and show you what games are being played the most in that area

      Availability
    • Available this Holiday season
    • No pricing has been mentioned yet

    More details as they arrive!
