The end of the year "best of" lists have already started to be released. Time Magazine has just rolled out its top 10 lists for 2009 including the top 10 videogames of the year. Take a wild guess at what the number one game is!

1. Modern Warfare 2
2. Batman: Arkham Asylum
3. DJ Hero
4. Borderlands
5. New Super Mario Bros. Wii
6. Geo-Defense Swarm
7. Scribblenauts
8. Halo 3: ODST
9. Assassin's Creed 2
10. Uncharted 2

On Modern Warfare 2:

This is a game that sends a message: Video games have something intelligent to say about contemporary military conflicts. In Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, you hop around the globe, chasing the front lines of globalized, asymmetrical combat, where not everybody wears uniforms, war isn't always declared, and the battlefield isn't clearly marked — battles rage through suburbs, airports and people's living rooms. There's tons of raw, riveting military action in Modern Warfare 2, but it's very much about how the game has changed: limiting civilian casualties and figuring out whom to fight and why are just as important as staying alive.

What are your thoughts on these top 10 titles from Time?

not very great list order there i do agree with what made the top 10 well most any ways

mine would be something like this

1. Uncharted 2
2. Batman: Arkham Asylum
3. Dragon Age: Origins
4. Assassin's Creed 2
5. Borderlands
6. New Super Mario Bros. Wii
7. Killzone 2
8. Torchlight
9. Modern Warfare 2
10. Halo 3: ODST

and yes killzone2 came out this year many people have forgotten about that although i do have to say the first one sucked ballz and this one really brought it back to life and was far far more superior than it predecessor

No love for L4D2 or Mirror's Edge?

Honestly I don't tend to think top whatever lists are particularly helpful. We're seriously comparing Super Mario Brothers Wii and Modern Warfare 2 in the same list? I tend to prefer the "here are the really enjoyable games from this year, broken into genres" approach that respects that some years suck for releases, and other years are overflowing with quality titles.

Anyway, either way, some great games are listed here.
