Gearbox's Randy Pitchford Slams Valve on Lack of PS3 Support

We go from Valve talking about why they don't develop for the PS3 to Gearbox's Randy Pitchford slamming Valve because of it. Let's see what Pitchford has to say about the "fanboys" that are Valve.
"I noticed something on the net not too long ago. Doug Lombardi (Valve's VP Marketing) had to take a swipe at the PS3 again, and I thought it was foolish. I read it the same way I read fanboys. Like there's a guy who brought the Sony platform and he's a Sony guy, so he decides he's going to spend a certain percentage of his time bashing Microsoft. And there's a guy on Microsoft doing the same thing. Those guys are childish and narrow minded, It's the same kind of thing" Randy then takes the comments to a more personal level "Valve think their own stuff is the only stuff that matters, to the point where they have their own distribution platform. It's like, I don't care about retail, about Marketplace, or PSN, I'm going to have Steam. It's cool, it's good, and they're doing a good job but at the same time they're reliant on the rest of the world. They had to do that deal with EA. When I see the L4D ad on the television I don't see a Valve logo, I see a EA logo, and when I bought it, I bought it at a store".

"I'm actually kind of mad at Doug because with the Orange Box, he said the 360 and PC versions are the good ones and the PS3 version is like the stepchild because some other developer made it. Well you Valve don't really think that, because look what you've done on the PC side. You've supported that, you've added all this content to Team Fortress 2, and you've left us hanging. It's hard to accept that genuinely, because I know the business, I know you guys make half the money on the PS3 version because you've got other fingers in the pie, and other developers getting a cut. It benefits you if nobody buys that, and only buys the PC version, because you make the most money. There's this underlying sleaziness. You know what, I thought the performance was a little slower on the PS3, but it Looked better. The colors were nicer, I thought the image looked better on PS3. It was a trade-off between the performance and the visuals. And I like visuals".

What do you guys think is the case here?

I think this guy is a retard

Lots of devs make console exclusive titles and the fact is the ps3 is much harder to write games for then the xbox because of multi-threading which is why an ea team had to port tf2 to the ps3.

im pretty sure no-one cares about someone who cries about a company who has never originally built something for the PS3.

I think this guy has a lot of built up aggression from Opposing Force. What you guys think?

The problem with the PSN is that it just doesn't seem right, or at least it didn't. It always seems to me that there are more people on XBL then there are on the PSN. The people at Sony, well I should say the developers of the games, are making things better, with games like LittleBigPlanet, Uncharted 2, and other (can't think off the top of my head). Before some of these games, there was no reason to play online.

The price of the console didn't help either, which is slowly getting better, with it's disadvantages (Linux and backwards compatibility loss).

So trying to make more money is sleazy? I'm perfectly fine if Valve returns to PC only gaming.

Sounds like he is angry that he didn't get to finish CS:Condition Zero before Valve pulled the plug on him.

Randy Pitchford is a talented individual, but he really would be better off if he just shut up and made games. This is why companies have PR guys. Not long ago he was commenting on how Valve was screwing over indie developers through Steam, and the major indie developers on Steam all responded that Valve had been very generous and helpful.

So basically Randy just says whatever comes to his mind based more on how he's feeling than anything that is factual or logical. Learning opportunity for us all: stick to what you're good at, and when in doubt, keep quiet.
