I doubt he's reloading for a Glock... entry-level 9mm ammo is still cheap most places. If you really love target shooting a ton on a budget, though, you really can't beat investing in a .22 pistol.

Anyway, I'm going to go ahead and take the opposite stance from everyone else here. I'm pretty happy about this whole situation, as much as it pisses a particular group off.

My read on the situation is that IW is holding the middle finger up in the faces of the PC people that want to pirate their games. It makes the warez experience a whole lot less compelling when you have no resources with which to set up your own infrastructure of servers for people without legit keys.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that everyone who's pissed off at this is a pirate (though some of the thieving scum posting above clearly are). But given that they complained about how many people were playing CoD:MW with pirated keys not that long ago, I think this is their bold move to address the situation. Bummer that legit server ops get the short end of the stick, but for me it's a small price to pay. Upside for your average player will be less encounters with abusive admins, cheaters, weird custom rule sets and the like.

IW is a company, and as such they're trying to make money by appealing primarily to the largest core of customers, while leaving the pirates in the cold to play, at best, the single-player campaign only. Likely they're hoping that a few of them will realize there's no way to get in on the gravy train other than shelling out some cash, even if it ends up being for their console instead of for their PC.

So there's my stand. Feel free to attack me for it, but I think it was inevitable that companies would start taking some of the control back and giving the bulk majority of their customers (read: not server ops and hardcore PC fanboys) the experience companies believe gamers want while maximizing sales. It'll be interesting to see how this plays out long-term as other companies watch IW's decisions succeed or fail.

As far as BF:BC2... looks to be a great game also. I don't know why some people here seem to think the two titles have to be mutually exclusive, though.

The PC warez/piracy reason is BS and you know it. The 360 version of this game has been pirated to hell and back for days now. IW simply doesn't give a damn about the PC community, plain and simple.

Since it's interested people : I live in France (though I'm British) , and S&B 124grs TMJ is about 20€ cts a round I just converted the price straight to $ as I know €>$ but ammo is generally cheaper in the US... So just thought it was about same same...

        As for .22 I've got a P22 with 5" barrel for cheap fun :-)

"Don't attack the guy, attack the argument" in fact I won't do even that ;-)
I know and understand "WII logic" and understand it makes sense from a business point of view for the companies involved.

But that doesn't mean I have to like it and it certainly will mean I will not buy this game. (Yes I know they probably couldn't care less about my 60 crappy € and I can go eat some cheese and cry you a river of red wine)

My argument isn't that it will stop the game from being pirated. My argument is that it keeps those pirates from successfully playing online, and that online is where the real appeal of this franchise is.

IW simply doesn't give a damn about the PC community, plain and simple.
I don't see how creation of IW.net (not an easy undertaking from a developer standpoint) could be construed to be the result of IW not caring about PC gamers in general. Not caring about clans? Sure. Server admins? Sure. Modders and tweakers? Sure. It's not "the PC community" that cares. It's a specific minority subsection that is up in arms about it. If you want to say IW doesn't care about that minority group, then that's a statement I can agree with.

As it stands, though, this brings the different platforms closer together in style. It's a matter of a game company no longer saying "we'll give the PC gamers whatever they think they want" and instead saying "this is our game, so you can play it our way or not play it at all." It's assertion of control, a business decision where they feel more people will have a better time (and thus boost sales) if they have everyone playing in this way.

In short, IW doesn't care about you. They care about the average Joe who you play against.

If that is reason for you to not buy the game, that's totally fine. I think there's a good chance that they're right, however, and that enough average PC gamers will like the online experience in MW2 better for it to have been a profitable decision for them. And if on the side that means they get to largely block out people who pirate the game, so much the better.

How are gun laws over there? Many Americans are under the impression that it's nearly impossible to legally own handguns in most European states. Excellent choice with the Walther P22 Target though. :)

I think Americans think we can't have handguns because the most vocal Europeans on English speaking forums are the Brits, and they can't since 1997.
In general rules are much more strict than the US except maybe Switzerland and the Czech Republic.

In France we can get almost any manually repeating long gun with a hunting or sport shooting club membership. For handguns or semi auto long-guns we need an authorization from the prefect (a non elected bureaucrat with powers similar to a US state Governor). It involves: a long background check (mine took 7 months), tonnes of paperwork, and the "goodwill" of the prefect or his lieutenant (he can say no on a whim). If this isn't enough, each authorization only covers one gun and only last 3 years, want more? fun time all over again!

So yeah we can, it's just out of reach of anyone without much persistence and tolerance for paperwork ;-)

That IS the pc gaming community... Clans, Modders, Server Owners and their Regulars... Who else is there? The average gamer fits into one of those categories.

IWNET destroys the pc gaming community on MW2 and pc gamers love for IW.

I think IW is banking on the average gamer being not a committed regular of a particular server, but instead someone who just likes to hit whatever pub has slots open on a map they like with a decent ping. Neither you nor I have statistics to argue the point past that, so it becomes more a question of what their market research is telling them.
