Newell Reveals Deaf Character in Half-Life 2's History

Prior to falling for the glasses wearing bad-ass otherwise known as Gordon Freeman, Half-Life 2's Alyx had another crush. Gabe Newell reveals, by way of a lengthy interview, that Alyx had a crush on someone who was hearing impaired. As a result, she had taught Dog how to sign in order to practice the language.

A three part YouTube interview has popped up in which Newell explains this backstory to a group of focus testers. As you may be able to tell, many of the participants are hearing impaired.

Unfortunately, the author of the video has disabled embedding from YouTube. However, the reveal by Newell can be found in part two of three. The rest of the interview can be found here by way of part one and then part three.

This "reveal" has led many to speculate that a deaf character may be featured in the upcoming release of Episode 3. With Valve remaining tight lipped on that title, this is nothing more than idle speculation for now.

Superb idea. I can see this going well on many levels.
