    Counter-Strike 1.6/GoldSrc Beta Released

A new beta for Counter-Strike 1.6 and GoldSrc games has just started up. Server admins who wish to opt-in to the beta can use the command line switch of "-beta cs0616" for the hldsupdatetool.
This beta include just a few tweaks since the last release, including:
    • Added -sys_ticrate command line option to allowed forced override of ticrate

    CS 1.6
    • Added -nobots option to allow forced override of bots on servers

The first part of the update does apply to all GoldSrc servers (Windows and Linux) and should be tested out even if you, as a server admin, do not run a Counter-Strike 1.6 server.

All errors should be reported back to the appropriate discussion on the HLDS mailing list.

    Re: Counter-Strike 1.6/GoldSrc Beta Released

Did you folks forget to mention what birthday it is on June 18th??

    It's Counter-Strike's 10th birthday since it's first release.

Counter-Strike was released on June 18th, 1999 as a modification (mod) for the popular game Half-Life. It pits a Counter-Terrorist team (CT) and a Terrorist team (T) against each other in a variety of exotic and urban environments. It features three game modes: Defusion where T players plant a bomb and CT players defuse it, Hostage Rescue where CT players attempt to rescue hostages, and Assassination where T players attempt to kill a VIP that the CT players must protect. Counter-Strike is currently the most popular online action game available, even though it technically isn't even a game on its own.
