Hideo Kojima's "next" project has been teased relentlessly since GDC earlier this year. A recent magazine ad quickly led to a new teaser site for his "next" project.
As it stands, the page contains nothing beyond a countdown and a symbol that appears periodically in the background. Many believe it to be the number "5" while others view it as a "S" in the same font as was given to Metal Gear Solid 4.
A few details have been uncovered through the site. The current countdown actually leads to a series of countdowns that eventually end on June 1. As it stands, June 1 is the day of the Microsoft E3 press conference.
At various times, the teaser site will flash white and the words "April 2007" can be seen. A commenter on Kotaku noted that in April 2007, Kojima personally blogged about a "Snake vs Zombies" idea he was kicking around. The code name for this project was "Project S."
Another member at NeoGAF noted the similarities to the border used on a promotional image for the Grindhouse films. The promo poster is from April 2007. The Planet Terror film deals with a group of people trying to survive a Zombie outbreak.
The last piece comes from the meta keywords on the teaser website. "Hideo Kojima, MGS, METAL GEAR, NEXT, game, Konami, Kojima game, KJP, and Kojima Production" are all words included in the keywords. As noted on Kotaku, there is no mention of "MGS5" in this list.
Make of this as you will. More countdowns surely await us until June 1 when everything will hopefully be revealed.
