Joe Siegler, the now former Webmaster for 3D Realms is just a tiny bit angry with how some of the Duke Nukem Fans are treating the 3D Realms closure. For the fans, it's more of a loss of future Duke than the loss of a job.

Here, Siegler addresses a fan who says that they lost sleep "just thinking of how much time we've wasted anticipating DNF."

I could barely sleep last night worrying about where my paychecks will come from after the final one I get in a week. I could barely sleep worrying that I will be able to be successful in a replacement job. I could barely sleep knowing that I have a baby coming in three weeks right after I cease getting paid. DON'T DO THIS TO ME BY WHINING ABOUT A GAME. Some of us have REAL MAJOR life problems. It's just a game. Who cares? My life and my family are at risk. Don't insult me.

He continues on to address another fan who asked if a bigger plan was being worked on, perhaps a merger with EA or another large development studio.

Why do people assume these options weren't explored? What puzzles me is people think these things didn't happen, because they didn't hear about them. While I'm not going into details, most people seem to be operating under the assumption of "Well, we're going out of business, we weren't trying to fix it before the announcement, so let's not try anything". Come on...

It should be noted that Siegler also runs and maintains a Texas Rangers fan site and a Black Sabbath fan site. While he is not asking for donations through the 3D Realms website, he will happily take your money through his other two ventures.

I'm with you on that... Don't blame the people who wanted the game to come out for your personal life issues... I'm sure there are tons of other people in the same boat as him, but you don't them crying over the internet .

Does it suck for him/them? Sure. But all we wanted from them was the game. So what does he expect us to say? They had more than ample time to complete their project and sell it so they could continue getting paid, and then move on to the next project and repeat. Their failure to do so is nobody's fault but theirs. Our only interest in their lives was the product they were making that they were supposed to eventually sell to us. If they think we really cared about anything else, that's their own delusion. If you want to make games and sell games for a living, guess what? You have to make games and sell them. If you don't have anything to sell, then wtf were you doing? I don't know or care who Joe Siegler is, or how many kids are popping out because he was gettin' busy with his woman. All I know is Duke 3D was fun, and it would probably have been fun to play the next one.

Did anybody ever think it would come out? How many great FPSs have come out since DNF was in development? Look at all the Half Life games, Counterstrike (1.6 and CS:S),Team Fortress (1 and 2), Left 4 Dead, etc.. that came out while that stupid game was in development. I'm amazed 3D Realms lasted as long as they did. The amount of time this thing was in development was unbelievable. What were they doing for that whole time? Duke Nukem Forever makes Daikatana look like a success story. What went wrong with DNF would make a good expose on G4.

Also, this quote from Joe is very telling: "It's just a game. Who cares". Well, if your are working for a company that develops computer games YOU should care! That is how you put food on your family's table. As a consumer I don't have to care because there are plenty of alternatives to vaporware and 'oohing' and 'ahhhing' over screen shots and concept art of a non-existent game is not one of them. His attitude was probably shared throughout the company which is why the game never saw the light of day.

This guy may have just been a webmaster at this company and not directly involved in the game's development but if he didn't see the writing on the wall he must be blind.

DNF may have been an acronym for Duke Nukem Forever but now it is just an acronym for Did Not Finish.

And one last thing, Gordon Freeman is bigger bad-ass than Duke ever was.

Joe Siegler needs to get a job... and a life.

Like I said to him on his Black Sabbath fan site forum (the post was removed, because the truth hurts), he needs to quit begging money off the fans. People lose their jobs everyday. People have babies everyday. Everybody nowadays is having financial troubles. But most of them don't resort to begging.

This is the second time in recent memory (the last being January 1, 2008) that Joe Siegler has solicited money from fans who visit his fan sites asking them to support him and his family.

You can find screenshots of Joe Siegler's complete 'site news' post from his Black Sabbath fan site from last year when he was begging the fans for money here, here, here and here.

However, this time his Black Sabbath 'site news' post is considerably shorter. This time he leaves out the over-exaggerated "oh woe, poor me" crap and goes straight for the money. And he makes the same exact post on his Texas Rangers fan site.

Folks, in case you misunderstand his motives, Joe's not looking for money to support his fan sites, he's asking for money for himself.

Joe Siegler needs to grow some balls and get a job.

Right now his behaviour is no better than the guy on the freeway off-ramp with the sign in his hand. Except Siegler's sign is the internet and he does his begging from his climate controlled room.

Like I said, pathetic. Absolutely.
